Do the Utah non-resident permit. It's accepted in WAY more states than the Idaho permit. Why limit your ability to carry when traveling?

What does the Utah permit require? They offer it down here at gunshows. A written test? Demonstration of familiarity with handguns?

I saw a post from center target stating the Utah just passed some legislation that requires non-residents applying for their ccw to have their own states ccw. Thus, anybody here in ID that now applies for a Utah CCW will be required to have their Idaho CCW. I'm glad I already got mine taken care of. Idaho ccw a bit different. But I heard you have to test competency along with sitting through a course. Not a bad thing though. Also Idaho ccw will show up on law enforcement computers and border crossings, whereas Utah's doesn't. Mixed feelings about that.

Saw the same thing, on the link proved by Sage (thanks!):

Quote:
Effective May 11, 2011, anyone applying for a non-resident Utah permit, from a State that has reciprocity with Utah, must submit their home-State CCW with their application. If you live in Idaho you must have an Idaho CCW permit before applying for the Utah permit.

I took the course at Center target today. Very well presented. Ed Santos is one of the top guys around. The class was way more than just the minimum that Utah requires. Ed's explanation of the law change dealt with what I believe motivates pretty much anything that happens and that is MONEY. Seems that other states were complaining to Utah that none of their residents were getting their home state CCW and hence the funds.

Yeah, Ed Santos is a wealth of information. As a retired gang cop, I rather expected the course to be a small town "gun expert" trying to impress us all with his superior knowledge (I've dealt with gun range owners like that before). What I found was someone who was informed, enlightening, and engaging, and made the course interesting to all in the room, cops and non-cops alike...just an awesome guy. I can't say enough good things about him...
