Congress tackled the role of religion and ethics in the politically explosive immigration debate Wednesday as biblical passages and church doctrines were invoked during a heated discussion of various reform proposals.
Quote:
"I didn't realize that the Bible barred the enforcement of immigration laws and neither did I realize that it erased borders, demanded pathways to citizenship for illegal immigrants, or ... forbid the leaders of a nation from caring most about the well-being of its own citizens."
Interesting....Congress debating the biblical aspects of immigration. Next, I suppose Congress will tackle the biblical ramifications of adultery....perhaps theft...coveting one's neighbors' goods?......maybe "Honoring the Lord thy God"...(or thy parents)?...pornography?....lying under oath?....working on the sabbath?....charging interest?
Fascinating. This ought to be a lively debate. Immigration from a biblical perspective..Nice going, guys!...
so now religion matters? A book that was written before we had states and borders does not apply today. I believe in God, deeply and personally but the book is very very old, before computers, Ipods etc.
Really? Whatever happened to separation of church and state then?
Oh yeah, this is IMMIGRATION we're dealing with, where anything goes apparently.......
imho the ONLY time religion should be brought into immigration discussions is when we're talking dealing with religious fundamentalist fanatics who pose a serious threat to our National Security - EOS
For what it's worth, here is an excellent article by the Orthodox Presbyterian Church that deals with Christian issues surrounding illegal migration. It's a little long in the tooth (25 pages), but it does provide a fair and accurate Christian perspective.
These so-called religious leaders would not give a damn about “immigration” if not for empty pews and dwindling coffers. If they actually knew the Bible, they would realize they are the “wolves in sheep’s clothing” mentioned in Matthew 7:15. . . .
"Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves."
If they want to argue from a bibical standpoint how about stealing, lying, etc. The illegals are guilty of doing all of thosethings.
Unfortunately, so are some members of Congress.
