Combined immigration rates should be lowered when Americans are having trouble getting jobs. That's only common sense, something few politicians have. And it's stupid to lower legal immigration when illegal immigration rates greatly surpass the legal immigration. Also include asylum seekers and refugees in with that combined rate.

Legal immigration exceeds illegal immigration. Legal immigration exceeds 1 million/year while illegal immigration has declined from about 600,000/year in the early 2000's to about 200,000/year in 2005-2009.

I'm extremely skeptical of the government's statistics when on one hand the government pretends to know how many and on the other hand pretends it can't stop them, can't detect them, and can't count them.
200,000 is incredibly low, and I doubt that figure because it's just too easy to get here. That number can't possibly include those who came on shopping and visitor visas and simply stayed because a huge number from Ciudad Juarez and all the northern states are coming over that way.
That's also why I would include the so-called asylum seekers who refuse to consider safer cities in Mexico with low unemployment rates but are now pouring over the border insisting that fear of street violence should bring them asylum.
Until there is a mandatory use of the Federal E-Verify system and strict enforcement I do not really see things changing much.
The type of changes needed for California to make true reforms is mindboggling.....would cause a backlash 10 times the force of anything we have seen in Michigan, do not think it will ever happen, California will look more and more like a 3rd world country.

Both Pew and DHS also show a decline the total illegal population. Arrests and deportations are also up under Obama. Arizona is at the forefront of media attention because the border has been tightened elsewhere -so the immigrant flow has shifted to the remote and dangerous Arizona desert. Ten years ago I could see migrants everyday blatantly crossing the river within sight of the El Paso ports of entry. I don't see that anymore. What has increased is the anti-illegal rhetoric.

So California, a state that is drowning (and rapidly sinking for the third time) under the debt of providing "services" to illegals would prefer to rather than combat that issue, demonise those here in this country working LEGALLY instead of seeking to restrict what is being given freely to illegals at taxpayers expense.
Yeah, makes perfect sense - if you're California............
