The problem with playing the race card on this, if a white American girl ran away and was found in Canada, you wouldn't be wringing your hands over it. Nor would you be claiming the Canadians must have been involved in some child sex trafficking.
The girl lied her way into Colombia, there is no reason to believe some Colombian sex trafficker kidnapped her. Now just like in Houston, she may have gotten involved in things in Bogota that weren't good but that happens to young runaways, no matter what country or people.
Your right, why is it that the race card on this forum is always brought up.
I honestly don't think this case would be different, if the girl were a different color.
But does appear, when a incident as this happens and the person is black, people assume the worse, why is that.
And just what if this were a blond white girl, would it really be that different!
I knew someone who years and years ago flew from her Country of Colombia, because of the violence at that time and the drug cartels.
ICE didn't accuse her of being an illegal alien. SHE CLAIMED to be, according to what we have seen. This is no one's fault but HERS. She got what she wanted; a free trip to Colombia. The only crime is that we (the American people) were duped into paying for it. She could have, at any time during the criminal trial or deportation hearing, stood up & said, "Wait, I'm really an American citizen named....." She chose to NOT do that.
I guess you have no knowledge of Immigration hearings The charge of being an Illegal alien is from the prosecutor which is ICE in this case Moreover
Colombian national wanted by ICE was 22 yr old not 12 yr old I don't know who hires these ICE folks in charge of deportation The agent needs to be fired
From the article...."Jakadrien's family says she left home in November 2010. Houston police said the girl was arrested on April 2, 2011, for misdemeanor theft in that city and claimed to be Tika Lanay Cortez, a Colombian woman born in 1990."
This seems so dumb, 1990? This would be a 12 year old. She had no trouble fooling folks w/ these math skills. Hopefully things turn out.
Also what's the point? Should we stop deportations because one person out of the millions deported was deported incorrectly, allegedly?
Get real dude.
She's a kid being deported back to a Spanish speaking country and she doesn't even know a word of Spanish. Her mom says she's a kid that not only LOOKS like a kid, but acts like a kid. Red flags all over the place.
No one is saying stop all deportations. Just deport the obvious violaters. Geez.
Also, WHAT was she in custody for in the 1st place??? If your living life on the up & up...she woulda had nothing to worry about..
She's a KID for crying out loud! You didn't do dumbsh*t when you were 15? That's what kids do at that age....act stupid. She just happens to be someone with more serious mental problems (obviously) than your average 15 year old.
Doesn't mean that competent adults should be so stupid as to deport a kid back to Colombia that has obviously never been there, isn't Hispanic, and can't speak a lick of Spanish. We pay the employees of that particular entity pretty damn good money to know the difference.
Funny at how you guys can get all up in arms about being asked a few stupid questions by airport screeners...so much so that you want them all fired and replaced with a multi-million dollar contractor, but have no issue with an agency so incompetent that they sent a 15 year old kid to a country that she OBVIOUSLY isn't from.
Our local anchor that covered this last night reported that to date there are no plans to bring her home. Also, she is now pregnant.
Yes, she lied and got herself in this mess, but how did ICE deport someone to Coloumbia who doesn't even speak Spanish. Were they retarded or did they simple ignore facts?
But does appear, when a incident as this happens and the person is black, people assume the worse, why is that.
When the person involved is black it seems like things jump right into a "the individual is a bad person and at fault for their situation, do not blame us, nothing needs to change unless it involves forcing blacks to be better" mode for some folks. Not everyone, but there are enough around here that do it IMO.
Every situation gets forced into that lens whether it warrants it or not. People immediately seek to defend whomever from any blame. It should all be on the "offender".
But this is not either/or situation to me. The girl lied and has some responsibility. But it shouldn't be so easy for a minor to get freaking DEPORTED. She didn't even have to work at it. I'm sure everyone involved followed procedure, so it's not their "fault", but that does mean that we need to look at the procedure.
Do we really have a system that relies solely on the word of the immigrant? Wouldn't that be an arena where we expect people to lie? Now normally thy'd be lying to stay, but still, it seems unusual that a teenage girl could just say what she wants and no one check up on it, especially one that's not actually a Spanish speaking Columbian.
Criminal because she was charged w/ a crime, shoplifting (it is in the article)...That makes one a criminal.
