Shooting him in the foot during an altercation would only be possible if Bruce Willis is the cop and Hollywood is filming a movie. The reality is that the officer did have the justification to shoot this fellow since he was trying to use his baton as a weapon. I am glad the officer is the one left standing.
Well since you dont know anything of police work and the use of deadly force, then you shouldn't be commenting because you are DEAD wrong, pun intended. Shoot him in the foot? Oh dear lord
I believe cops are only allowed to shoot to kill if the suspect is armed.

If the suspect carries something that can be used as a weapon, whether it be a knife, bat, baton or implies he has a weapon, deadly force can be used. Don't they offer Citizen Police academies around you guys?
and what do you consider "swinging a baton" to be, ProLogic . . . AN ACT OF LOVE?
Sometimes we forget that police offcers are human. They are a "special breed", and they do a job I wouldn't want to do....(and we'd be in sorry shape without them). But they're not really expected to be "heroes". They are really just PEOPLE, and they have families, and when they go to work, they want to be able to go home that night.
They are NOT expected to put themselves at foolish, unneccessary risk. If you take a cops' weapon away, you can expect to be shot. Don't want to get shot? Then hands off the cop's baton, or his sidearm. Sorry if this advice offends some people. Ask yourself this, how often have YOU assaulted a cop, or taken away his weapon? If you haven't, why not?
Doesn't ALWAYS work, but this is a good rule to at least "start by". Don't want to get shot? Then don't do anything a cop might see as "threatening" to his life. He wants to live to see his grandkids.
Yes, some of them DO get a little "grumpy" and rude....which is a lot better than I'd be doing, if I had to do that job....best advice is, stay out of their way...they've got "bad guys" to go after.....so don't be one. But if you DO run afoul of one, then DON"T GRAB HIS WEAPON!!....sheeeesh!....
