Of course, during this period of recession, we have such a surplus of funds we can well afford to accommodate illegal aliens.

In an unprecedented effort to reach out to illegal immigrants, the U.S. government will spend $26 million to send Spanish-language census questionnaires directly to homes for the first time in the decennial count’s history.
In past years, participants could request special forms in several languages—including Spanish, Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese—but this will mark the first time that the government sends to entire regions census questionnaires in a language other than English.
The nation’s powerful La Raza movement is undoubtedly thrilled that Uncle Sam is catering to the illegal population in the U.S., which is mostly Mexican and Central American. Latino rights advocates point out that, sending forms in their native language will win over the trust of immigrants who are especially suspicious of the government amid heightened immigration raids and deportations.
What the hell has this have to do with illegal immigration? There are MANY legal immigrants that prefer things in their native language as they are learning a new language. It saves money actually instead of accumulating erronous data and having to deal with the repercussions of that.
The Democratic controlled Congress and WH want as accurate census data as possible on all of the illegal Mexican future Democratic voters if amnestied, in order to get a better handle on the level of hispandering they're going to need in their upcoming push for CIR or as it's better known, amnesty.

They can "prefer" all they want. It is we the taxpayer that is having to foot the bill for it. Immigrants can either sink or swim when they come here. I couldn't care less what the illegal kind want anyway.

Would there really be significant additional costs to printing these forms? I would imagine that the translations don't change that much.

But that's how it's done. There is no "speak english or else" law of the land.

Again, not all LEGAL immigrants know fluent English (most are trying). It's cheaper to print out forms in a foriegn language. It really does save A LOT of time and hence money.
So why would you want to pay more in taxes and waste resources pertaining to something that really is trivial.

It isn't trivial in dollars and the waste is in printing documents in several langauges. Also, when immigrants are catered to in their native tongue they have less desire to assimilate lingually. If they don't understand documents in English then they can get a relative to translate them for them or pay for a translator. Make them responsible for their own lack of English skils, not us.

Then maybe they ought to stay in their home country. Too bad but if you move to Germany and refuse to learn German then they have every right not to provide you everything in your own language.
