E-verify does not work if they are paid with cash as in "under the table"

You think, lawn help, kitchen worker, construction worker, farm hand, casual laborer, domestic etc are paid by check?

Yes, many are paid under the table. However, we have 8 million no-match SSNs in the work force, with the majority of them being illegals. They use fake or stolen SSNs.

If e-verify is mandated the employers will have to use it. I imagine audits will be involved. it may not be 100% foolproof but it will go a long ways in in making employers think before they hire illegal aliens with stiff fines for non-compliance.

E verify WILL still spook a lot of illegal aliens into leaving because a dirty employer will more likely try to cheat their kind than a US citizen. Cheating 1 of us is too risky because many times we CAN hit back and, not worry about being deported.

Most low skill workers, hired by legitimate businesses, are paid by check. What do you think will happen when a restaurant gets audited and they can't explain how they run the restaurant without employees? Or a hotel without maids? Or a contactor without any construction workers? Or a farm runs without any farm workers?

Also, if a legitimate business that hires low skilled workers, pays employees with cash, they can't deduct the wages, so they'd have to claim the cash paid wages as income and pay taxes on them as if wages are profits. As it is now, with identity theft being allowed if you're an illegal immigrant, business can pretend to not know that their employees are illegal. So they can pay below market wages and also deduct the wages, since their illegal alien employee has stolen someones identity.

But if they had to verify the legal status and identity of the employees, they couldn't have it both ways. They couldn't both pay illegals below market wages and deduct their wages. So the cost savings of paying illegals below market wages would be offset by not being able to deduct their wages and the possibility of being fined.

There will always be people dead set on going outside of the system and willing to pay cash and trouble with the IRS and fines. But e-verify would make things a lot better. Not having a 100% perfect solution isn't a good reason not to use a tool that would significantly improve a problem.

The ones I know are paid cash. You act above as if the entire staff is illegal. No one alluded to that. I would rather be realistic than go to the extreme as above and set a poor hypothesis to work on.

It works very well in Arizona and Employer mandates have been effective. Sheriff Arpaio has been very effective.

Wouldn't be fitting if Arpaio arrested Obama for Conspiracy and Corruption?:rolleyes :

I read some of his employer sanction raids and in 58 of them the illegals were arrested for ID theft. Would E-verify indicate stolen ID if confirmed. None of the employers were arrested.
