Anthony Bourdain Hits Back at Donald Trump, Defends Immigrants - Eater

This is an excerpt of what Bourdain said. From the article:

Never, in any of those years, not once, did anyone walk into my restaurant — any American-born kid — walk into my restaurant and say I'd like a job as a night porter or a dishwasher. Even a prep cook — few and far between. Just not willing to start at the bottom like that.

------------------
I say, really? Funny how restaurants that use E-verify never have any problems finding American citizens and legal immigrants to take these jobs.

Also notice how the article title once again blurs the lines between legal immigrants and illegal aliens?

I don't think much of Mr Bourdain: he's an arrogant POS snob IMHO.

^Agreed.

My husband thinks Bourdain is (and I agree) an a-hole.

What a liar he is. I see young Americans doing those jobs all the time. At least at the restaurants that display an e-verify sign. Anyone who calls illegal aliens "immigrants" you know has an agenda.

You know where an article is going when it has "immigrant" in the title and is actually about illegals.

The restaurant jobs are exactly the kinds of jobs that need to free up. Here, in a low income area, many high school kids need jobs to help support the family or save for their education. The college has a lot of kids needing jobs especially with less money coming into the college from the government each year. And, we have a lot of people here who need a 2nd part-time job.

Those fancy restaurants, those people will just have to pay a little more to enjoy their expensive meal so that we don't have to subsidize those cooking, serving and cleaning up after them. Plus, their kids are probably at home with the illegal nanny, the yard being mowed by an illegal................. Everyone needs to pay their own way!

Sounds like someone who likes to pay low ball wages and pocket the profits. In my area kids work the restaurants, do landscaping and yes work on farms. So do adults.

That's funny, I started out as a dishwasher when I was 14. Everyone I worked with was an American as well. A mix of teenagers looking for beer money and older retired people looking to supplement their SS checks. A shame most of those jobs go to illegals nowadays. Minimum wage is too much for some restaurant owners to pay I guess.

Ugh. Never could stand the guy. Arrogant and tries too hard to be down with "the people" of other countries while thumbing his nose at the American foodies who made him rich. OF COURSE he had illegals coming in asking to wash dishes and mop the floor--they probably had 8th grade educations and there are no large scale farms or meat processing plants in Manhattan. Knowing that the NYC restaurant industry is a haven for illegals, why would an American teenager even try? How dare Bourdain think his greed for cheap labor is important than the welfare of the country.

I don't think he is lying. His restaurants are in places that are flush with immigrants and all the White kids are from wealthy families. And if those White kids do want to cook, their parents put up the 80 grand to send them to the CIA or other top notch chef school.

Here in Ohio, it is a different story. Every time I see a job being done that I would expect to see a Mexican doing, it is a White guy.
