For at least 100 years, this country has been dependent on immigrants to satisfy the demand for labor in some industries.

Today, farming, food processing and even some of what remains of our industrial sector, are dependent on foreign workers. Most Americans will not do these jobs because the pay is too low, and the work is too difficult/strenuous for that low of a wage. Don't forget, the average American is not in the best of shape.

Personally, I wouldn't mind shoveling manure for 25 bucks an hour, especially since the COL is typically very low in rural communities. The fact is though, no one is going to pay me that much to perform that kind of menial labor.

Either wages go UP or companies find better ways of doing business even if it means using more and more machines instead of people. Def NO "need" for any illegal aliens. Period.

Not again!

First of all, without their anchor babies and me helping to support them, the illegals couldn't afford to do those jobs!!! If I had 6 kids all being raised by the US government, my life would have been a lot different too! Gosh, if they would just have paid to raise the 2 we had, we would have been "set" for retirement.

Farmers are begging for people(Americans) to pick fruit and vegetables. One place was paying $12.00 an hour to pick weeds, not many Americans are applying for the job.

People either need to encourage their kids to begin on the low ladder and then they can go to the top, too many want top jobs, not beginning. Seasonal workers use to do these jobs, why the change?

Cut off most govt bennies for people under about 50 years old and, there'd be LOTS of Americans working the fields, especially if those people were "given" decent health insurance.

Seasonal workers: if talking Mexicans; legal or illegal, that supply's drying up real fast since their kind don't have big families in 2016.

Do you really think so.......how many young kids do you know willing to be in the fields for 8 hrs without their cell phone? I am not sticking up for this, I just don't see Americans working in butcher shops and hard labor, not many think that is the job to begin with. We have pushed our kids into thinking they are above hard work, look at the public school system and colleges.

How about all the Asians who own strawberry fields in California, most of them are family operated and owned, yet many are illegal.

This is why there are guest worker programs. Foreigners can apply, come in, do the work needed and then go home again. It's not that difficult and if laws like this were enforced, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

I said immigrants. NOT illegals. We do not need them, period. The ones that are here must be dealt with somehow though. Right now, many are doing jobs that Americans won't touch with a 10 foot pole.

Wages can go up, but you and I will be footing the bill. And then we will have Americans complaining that other Americans are making 25 bucks an hour doing unskilled work. It's a repeating cycle.

Lets see... Hard work in the field, with the sun beating down on you, surrounded by nothing but corns fields and dirt, or work part time at McDonalds or Walmart and collect food stamps....

And we always hear about that "one place". What about all the rest? What are they willing and able to pay for hard work?

Are Americans really willing to pay 30% more for all the food they eat? I think this wouldn't be such a bad thing, considering how fat, out of shape and unhealthy the average American has become. Maybe we do need a few more Americans out in the fields picking crops and such. Good luck convincing anyone of this though.

I understand this.......I just wonder when did the law change from seasonal workers to come live here and after your season is up collect unemployment and welfare. I remember when California had seasonal workers, and they were not working in our hotels, construction, etc.......they were in the fields and farms.
