I don't think Mexicans will achieve the same degree of assimilation that the Italian descended Americans did. I think their living standards will improve, but not to the same degree. What the Italians, and the Irish, and the Polish and all those other early 20th century immigrants had on their side is that they are white. Mexicans are, for the most part, not white. There is not a society in this world where two different races living together within a country have the same living standard. The darker of the two is usually at the bottom.
