A federal appeals court ruled the Trump administration must halt a policy of returning migrants along the southern U.S. border to Mexico while their requests for asylum in the U.S. are considered.

The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, based in San Francisco, on Friday ruled the policy was inconsistent with federal immigration law and U.S. international treaty obligations not to return aliens to countries where their life or freedom would be threatened due to their race, religion, nationality, or political or social affiliations.

The court, in its 2-to-1 ruling, said its decision applied to the entire southern U.S. border.

The ruling is a considerable setback for the Trump administration because it said the remain-in-Mexico policy was one of its most effective in slowing the wave of asylum seekers arriving at the southern border from Central America and elsewhere. Illegal border crossings have fallen more than 75% since their peak in May, around the time when the administration vastly expanded “Remain in Mexico” along the border.

The administration could choose to seek emergency intervention at the Supreme Court, as it has in other immigration cases when it lost in the lower courts.

Immigration and the courts, what a roller coaster.

Is it me or should we question the viability of the 9th Circuit related to illegal immigration actions related to POTUS? A clear pattern of SCOTUS overturning them on this issue is beginning to look like a breach of the 9ths constitutional duties. Perhaps they should be stripped of their authority to invoke nationwide injunctions on the issue until they get their act together.

Illegals are not supposed to be here, period. No US citizen can reasonably assert that they are being damaged in some way because the nation is enforcing the illegal immigration law. They either should erase the borders or plug their holes. And if they do, they should be lined up, the second they call on the military to save their sorry arses in the aftermath.

The ACLU should concern themselves with Americans getting the shaft from outsourcing, unfair trade deals, the rich being able to hide trillions offshore, Silicon Valley having a workforce that is only 2% black, despite having corporations among them worth over a trillion $$. Isn’t it a civil liberty to not have the planet turn into a cesspool? How about what the drug war did to this country. Where was the ACLU and the 9th circuit?

This country is a hypocritical oaf. No wonder the liberals don’t mind the rich getting richer. They seem to be the group where the wealthy absolutely hold the vessels of power. If certain conservatives would calm the f down about US citizen black people and women, it would be over for the two faced liberals.

Nothing the 9th Circuit does should surprise folks on either side of the aisle. Everybody knows what they're going to get when an issue goes before them.

Fine.
Build more cages.
Build The Wall

Those "asylum seekers" will WISH they were being held in Mexico.

The 9th Circus clearly is being transformed, but there are still too many radical, "resistance," leftist judges on it for comfort.

This is but another decision to be overturned by the Supreme Court.

Wow, this is the best news ever! If they are seeking asylum here, then they should be allowed to stay here.

If most asylum claims were legitimate, I'd agree. But "asylum" is now the magic word that the overwhelming majority of people at the southern border are using to gain entry into the US. The overwhelming majority of these cases are ultimately denied asylum, so we know we are being had.

Didn't SCOTUS already said it could be implemented... Guess SCOTUS is going to do it AGAIN... Liberals fail and then they try to cheat, only to fail AGAIN...

Yes, statistically that is true but these open borders freaks don't care. Most of these asylum seekers are coming here out of poverty. Well sorry, but being poor is not a viable reason to claim asylum in our country. If that were so, we'd have 2 billion all over the planet coming here. Oh joy!

But they aren't being returned to their homelands where they supposedly will face danger. They are being kept in a safe place in Mexico till their cases can be heard so the international law being quoted is under false pretenses. The Supreme Court should overturn this ruling.
