Record numbers of Venezuelans are crossing the U.S.-Mexico border as overall migration swells. Unlike the farmers and low-wage workers who come from Mexico or Central America, the Venezuelans are often bankers, doctors and engineers.
Venezuelans have suffered under Socialism. Like Cubans, many come here and vote GOP due to experiences with Chavez and Maduro. Republicans would be doing themselves a favor by letting them in.

I'm assuming you mean the doctors, etc. that the article is claiming are jumping our border illegally? Why don't they apply to come here legally? Those are the types of immigrants that we need and would probably be approved, not Venezuela's poor, needy, unskilled and uneducated.

It seems like your understanding of Venezuela politics is very limited. Did you know we don't even recognize the "elected" leader of Venezuela, rather the opposition candidate?
Political asylum is legal. Surely anyone who disagrees publicly with the socialist regime is persecuted.
I don't know exactly who the asylees are, but we do know that we have a system - TPS - to handle situations like Venezuela. But "good immigrants" in Venezuela aren't going to get any help from their government to come here.
And we have limits annually on legal immigration. You know that!
I did see that the # of Venezuelan apprehensions this year exceeds the total from the last 14 years combined.
Now, should these people be turning themselves over at checkpoints, rather than have to be apprehended? Of course. Though it does seem like they are turning themselves in.

Um no, the only viable asylum claim is persecution. You including a socialist regime as reason for a persecution claim is not viable. Venezuelans do not have a TPS claim either. I am aware that the U.S. has annual limits on legal immigration where did I say otherwise? I have no idea what Venezuelan's immigration policies are nor do I care.
They shouldn't even be coming here without a viable asylum claim in the first place.

I didn't hear that they are coming illegally. The border patrol said they were openly surrendering to their custody.
And yes, higher education is free in Venezuela, so there are a number of engineers and other high level professionals there. Also, the people who have the means to get up here are not the impoverished selling fruit on the side of the road.

There is no way that doctors and lawyers are coming up to our border to gain entry that way. They would be following the normal legal channels (visas) to come here and that's my point. Only the impoverished would do that whether they surrender to the border patrol to claim asylum or to just sneak in illegally.
