If the Uber/Lyft drivers I've ridden with recently are any indication, I'd say there's been a large uptick of immigrants from the Middle East and Ukraine.

Every Uber ride we had in SoCal last fall was non-English-speaking. But they had nice new Teslas!

Large percentage of English-speaking foreigners in medical care in CA.

This. ^^^^ Here in Los Angeles (San Fernando Valley) I agree with this. Almost all of my recent Uber/Doordash/Uber Eats delivery drivers have all been recent Ukrainian/Russian immigrants. The remaining few have been Iranian Jewish (i.e., Persian Jewish) drivers.

As a side, I always find it hilarious to hear some of my MAGA friends when their brains explodes when I tell them about how many Persian (Iranian) Jewish people are here in Los Angeles. Its like their little minds cannot comprehend that there are Iranians who are Jewish.

Same in expensive Massachusetts. The thing is... both these places have right-to-shelter laws. CA does not.

You can't be serious.

Most Persian Jews immigrated to LA around the time of the Iranian Revolution in 1979. I don't think there are a lot of recent immigrants.

How did I know, when I saw the thread title, it would be one of Coe's threads?

I'm almost afraid to ask what a "Northern Triangle Latino" is.

C-D; always educational.

IDK if this is off-topic, but....in whose world is Uber/Lyft driving a real job? One that pays much of anything at all, to say nothing of providing a livable income? It was challenging enough for taxi drivers to make a livable income. I can't imagine how Uber/Lyft can be anything but some kind of supplemental income for pocket change or something.

It's usually a side gig for students, people with other part-time jobs, or those who are between jobs. At least that is the case for the people I know who drive Uber.
