Raimy is correct. We did it to ourselves. Soon we'll all need to learn Spanish to get by.

Frankly; the way things are going down in Mexico, it would behoove that nation to mandate the teaching of English since the odds are growing that we (the USA) may wind up with at least the northern tier of Mx states.

The reality is that Spanish is a provincial language on the order of French: significant in Spain/Latin America but not widely used elsewhere-------------whereas English is the lingua franca of the world.

And; on the off chance that Hispanic culture did take root here in the USA, the Mestizos/Indians would lose big time due to the White supremacy of it. The standard of beauty in Mexico, Spain, etc. is white skin and blue eyes.

Then we clearly need to seal the border and tighten immigration requirements if we have a huge block of people that is 'growing very fast' that has no interest in assimilating into the country they 'say' they want to be a part of.

Yes it could be commonly used among spanish speaking people but when dealing with anything involving the public such as businesses, government entities, schools and everything else that serves the people of the US it should be exclusively in english. Period.

No one is saying that when someone comes from a foreign language country that they give up everything from their country of origin but they should adapt and assimilate to the country they voluntarily came to.

The pro-illegal advocates on this board (you included) have said that it wouldn't hurt us to learn spanish. The same goes for those coming here either legally or illegally. It wouldn't hurt them to learn english. In fact it would probably cut down on some of the growing resentment against them.

How about the common dream of achievement? The common language of English? The display or our common flag, the celebrations of our common holidays, the common knowledge of our common history?

To purposefully engage in seperatism in order to prove that you are indeed seperate is dysfunctional and short sighted. In plain English - you are hurting yourselves even as you elevate 'hispanic' and 'latino' over American. And you as a group are also hurting the cohesiveness of our nation. Because if I am hearing you correctly you are saying why learn English? There are so many of us they will have to learn/should have to learn Spanish. By clinging to the language of your past you are hurting the ability to communicate with other people. And I find that puzzling.

Good, we agree. Glad you saw the light!

Seriously though, it's sad that that's all you could come up with. It just proves that my point has validity. So I think we're done now.
