Way to go, Maryland!

Quote:
Undocumented students will continue to pay higher tuition rates at Maryland colleges after the state Assembly effectively killed a bill that proposed to grant them in-state rates if they are residents. El Tiempo Latino reported that legislators adjourned before considering the bill, which was introduced by Sheila Hixon. Even if they have graduated from Maryland high schools, undocumented students are considered nonresidents and pay college tuitions that are about three times the rate for residents.

I attended Maryland schools and graduated from a Maryland high school in 1979. It was truly an all American high school experience, and I have great memories of those years. Recently, while checking Reunion info on my high school's Alumni website, they showed a picture of my high school's CURRENT choir during a recent spring concert. Well, it might as well have been a picture from a school somewhere in Mexico or Latin America! I had to wonder if the choir is even able to sing in English anymore! What has happened to my school? What I really don't understand, is how all these "immigrants" are able to afford living in Maryland in the first place. I was born there, and grew up there, and had to leave because I could no longer afford the high cost of living.

Surprising coming from a liberal state like Maryland. However, I think the general, legal population across the nation is getting fed up with supporting these illegals and their offsprings.

Montana: Erm...
1. Latin America has multiple racial backgrounds like the U.S. does - it has received White, Native American, Black, and Asian immigrants like the U.S. did - Schools in Mexico and other places vary as American schools do
2. How do you know they aren't fluent in English?

Demographics change in many places; it's a fact of industrialized, urban life. The concern about illegal immigration is this: We are not so certain that the U.S. can prosper by getting so many poor, uneducated people when their labor is largely not needed in the post-industrial USA.

More and more self described 'Liberals' have taken a hard turn right when illegal immigration is involved.
