Interesting story of ICE doing the right thing:

New Haven Teen Discovers Illegal Status While Trying To Serve Country - KTVI (http://www.fox2now.com/ktvi-noe-guzman-illegal-alien-052209,0,3883838.story - broken link)

Quote:
The reason they turned is ironic. Noe wants to go to college, and eventually become an anesthesiologist. To meet his goal, he planned to join the Marine Corps. He scored high on the initial test, and then returned to take a physical last year.

While waiting after doing paperwork, he was told there was a problem and taken to a back room.

"Once I went back there with them they kind of accused me of knowing my situation and trying to lie to them and such and they put me in deportation proceedings and I was shocked."
But ICE decided to act properly to correct the situation:

Earlier this semester, he got some good news. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, dropped its pursuit of deportation. Guzman can stay in this country, and, as long as he stays out of legal trouble, go to school and go about his business. But he's still considered an illegal alien.
Great job ICE!

Great job ICE!
Since you lived here illegally for two years yourself, I can understand how you can relate to this situation.

How did ICE correct the situation? He is still an illegal alien and his chances of actually becoming an anesthesiologist are close to zero. Come to think of it, from the looks of things even if he were a citizen his chances would still be close to zero.

Maybe he should consider being an anesthesiologist in his homeland? Hint: it's not the US.

Good job, ICE? Only if they would have deported him and the rest of his family - and whatever anchors they were able to produce while living here.

Clearly a dereliction of duty for ICE, although this decision no doubt came from higher up, possibly from Napolitano? I mean why deport a perfectly good future Democratic voter when by keeping the illegal in this country he has the chance to become a citizen and future Democratic voter if the Dream Act passes. Certainly there are plenty of illegals that deserve to be deported ahead of this one illegal, but illegal is illegal, and every illegal that ICE comes across by law must be deported. But this was clearly another chance to hispander for the Latino vote by the career Democratic politicians of the Socialist Democratic Amnesty Party.

Maybe so, but ICE seems to be showing their priorities by their actions. Putting more resources into deporting illegal aliens who they consider criminals, and releasing who they do not consider criminals.

Because entering the US illegally/overstaying one's visa certainly does NOT make one a criminal, right?

You can enter illegally/overstay your visa but until you commit a serious offense you are not a criminal. Huh?

Where do we draw the line? I think it is great we have people that want to contribute but we still need boundaries and guide lines as to how we do this. We are a Nation of laws which makes us distinct.

You need to remember that as long as those laws appease ethnocenticists, pro-illegal advocates and big businesses then it's fine and dandy.

Laws are man made, you can just change them. When the laws no longer suffice for the problem at hand. And I think that in the near future this will happen. The laws are going to be changed to give a pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens or the penalties for illegal aliens will be increased. From the current political environment my best guess would be that the former will happen, and illegal aliens will not be outside the law anymore.
