Well -- you can't deny that some gays have true and lasting relationships. And what of the asexuals who just have a close friend but don't want to consummate anything?
I think they can determine which are real and which are shams in a couple ways. If the couple can only stay in love if both are living in the USA, then it's very questionable -- as real love can exist outside the USA. Often that "for better or worse" is meaningless.
The sponsor is supposed to provide for the financial support of their immigrant and that should include putting them on an insurance plan and paying their other health care costs. A very good sign of a sham marriage is when the immigrant is not added to all the bank and credit card accounts.
