In July 2008, the Center for Immigration Studies, a conservative think tank in Washington, D.C., estimated that Arizona's 500,000 illegal-immigrant population had dropped by 18 percent in one year. It speculated that stricter immigration enforcement, including the state's sanctions law aimed at eliminating jobs for undocumented immigrants, likely was the cause.
I live here in the Phx area and the decline of Spanish speakers has been quite significant---------despite the denials of the pro illegal apologists. And; note the date of which I quoted, 2008........more have left since then
The cold reality is that most illegal aliens are ether from Mexico or Central America.
probably illegal? what? why because they are latino?
man nothing changes around here! im glad you guys are the very small minority.
FROM THE ARTICLE:
"In recent years, Food City has faced fierce competition from California-based Pro's Ranch Market, which has opened six supermarkets in the Phoenix area. In 2006, Fry's Mercado supermarket opened in west Phoenix, primarily aimed at Latinos, and in June, Walmart opened Supermercado de Walmart, a supermarket tailored to Hispanics on the west side."
AND
"Nied said the main factors that led to the closings are the economy, the credit crisis and a protracted battle over unionizing workers with the United Food and Commercial Workers.
Bashas' closed five stores earlier this year, including two Food City locations.
Nied said the chain did not know whether the exodus of Latino immigrants has hurt sales, especially at the three Food City stores that are closing next week"
anyone looking at it without an agenda would see that larger forces are at play.

"illustrates how much businesses that cater to the Hispanic community are suffering as the economy and immigration crackdowns have driven Latinos out of Arizona"

Thanks, you saved me from typing the same words. The article itself tells the story. Legal Hispanics are not leaving, unless of course they are harboring Illegals.

As all of you stated--------and, it would be extremely difficult for an illegal alien apologist to throw the 'race card'---------since all of you are either Hispanic and/or American Indian

Yeah not too many illegal immigrants in the U.S speak Hebrew, Tagalog, French, or Japanese for example as a first language.
then how do you all explain the newly opened walmarts and other stores that cater to the latino population?
to think a store went out of business because of some supposed crack down of illegals (without valid stats to back it up) is ridiculous.
there is an agenda in this article. it is not biased. and if you guys think this is a victory then go for it. but you are wrong.

It stated in the article the main factors were economic in nature (the state of the economy, competition, and credit crisis).
