Just last week I was speaking to a worker at the grocery store here in Redwood city, he is of El Salvadorian decent but born here, speaks only English. I spoke to his manager about the rude customer and the manager told me in a quiet whispering voice "this happens all the time".
This is all pretty sad, nothing "hilarious" about these sort of confrontations.

What you described sounds odd--------especially being that both you and the ethnic 'El Salvadorian' were speaking
English. I would have lost my cool as well under the circumstances.
Unless; Mach50, what you just outlined is the thing that I have been
fearing is starting to come to pass. Read that
innocent i.e. Americans/green card holders who look stereotypically 'Hispanic' (darker skin, straight hair, etc.) are starting to get caught in the crossfire between the extremists on both sides of the growing immigration fight.
