Could the problem possibly be that the users would have to pay better wages if using the legal process?
The problem with this is that the majority of illegal immigrants do actually gain wages that are consistent with the min. wage...or even better. The median income of an illegal immigrant family is over 45k and the average about 37k.
A possibility may simply be the inaccessbility and the inefficiency of the program.
As we all know, the majority of illegal aliens are not farm workers. They are working at other jobs that pay more.
Which means that there is competition for workers, thus the implication being that while still low wage, the majority would make the min. wage in order to compete with other sectors of the economy for low wage workers.
Not disputing claims of farmworkers making below the min. wage, but rather saying that it MOST likely is not the vast majority (given the data of other industries as well as the overall average and median incomes).

I wonder how many of the 10% unemployed would like to earning that 45k?
The problem isn't so much inaccessibility. The problem is why bother when there are so many illegals and no one is enforcing the law.
I'd only like to point out, to the OP mainly, that this isn't the "evil mexicans" forum. This is a place to discuss sensitive issues surrounding illegal immigration. Not a place to rant on Mexicans. We do have a Mexico sub forum, but somehow I doubt comments like this would stand there for long ...
