Where does it say that he is an illegal immigrant? I'm really not seeing that. I read twice.

Sanctuary city - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This might explain it for you.Several Cities around California have pledged to ignore Federal Immigration Law and become a safe haven for Illegal aliens.Santa Ana has a foreign bornr Mayoyr and several opf it's top officers are either Mexican born or have parents that came over from Mexico.(I am not sure if they originally came over legally).Usually Sanctuary Cities are extremely Liberal or have a high percentage of Illegals and/or Latinos who sympathize with them (Santa Ana,Los Angeles).Usually they won't enforce certain Federal Policies or look the other way when and in several cases when the Police Dept. sets up checkpoints for drunk drivers that catch Illegals driving without licenses or Calif. mandated auto Ins.the Mayor will put a stop to it and hinder Law enforcement from fully screening and/or taking action against Illegal aliens who are violating the law.
After this incident the County of Orange is implementing some screening at their jails the main OC Co. jail is in Santa Ana All O.C. jails to start checking immigration status of inmates | - News - The Orange County Register A few weeks ago they had a gang banger torch one of the Police cars while the Officers were eating at a nearby restaurant.Usually when a City chooses to become a Sanctuary City they have increased crime and a population that's harder to police since they're not carrying valid ID.You cannot pick and choose which laws to follow without a breakdown in the system. If you follow the local paper Santa Ana has a huge latino gang problem and several fights, driveby shooting and robberies from week to week that seem to be spreading to the surrounding communities of Costa Masa,Anaheim,Orange and Garden Grove(Where you have SE Asian gangs).Hopefully this answers a few questions.

We all get the illegal immigration issue, but you're coming off as categorizing all illegal immigrants as being equally scummy to the pain in the rear from the newspaper article. It clearly isn't the case and that distinction should be made. Yes, some illegal aliens are pains in the rear, some U.S. citizens and legal residents are also pains in the rear. Likewise, many illegal immigrants are nowhere near to being the pain in the rear that the guy from the article is.

I find it fairly useless to post every single newspaper article relating to an arrest of an illegal alien for some non-immigration related crime and then generalizing about the entire illegal alien population. Of course nobody wants people who maliciously attempt to harm other people to be roaming this country freely. However, the fact that the individual's immigration status is in question hardly seems relevant and says absolutely nothing about the rest of the illegal alien populace.

Sans their condition of over stay or illegally crossing of course. Sorry, I can't dismiss how much we are FORCED to spend every year to keep (or attempt to) keep the criminals out.

I was asking in particular about the specific laws of Santa Ana, CA - as stated by the article the label "sanctuary city" could be used for different reasons.

List of sanctuary cities

It is not a law as I understand it. It is the lack of enforcement of laws agreed upon by LE Agencies set by City govt.

In other words, would this be a gentleman's agreement that is not written down on paper?
