Press Release - Ohio Lawmaker Wants to Deny Workers' Compensation to Illegal Immigrants

Quote:
"It's an invitation to employers to actively recruit illegal workers: they won't be held responsible for hiring them, they won't have any responsibility for workplace injuries that occur and they can avoid other forms of liability, provided, of course, that they did not 'intentionally hurt' the worker," Coppelman wrote on his company's blog. "Seitz has stacked the deck against an already vulnerable population."
Oh well, come here illegally and face the consequences.

Rewards for breaking our laws? Ohio is correct. They should not pay out workers comp to illegals.

Makes sense to me!

But this immigration lawyer has a point:

Quote:
"It's senseless because it's not going to address the problem," Leopold said.
Why not hold the employers accountable then? When an illegal is hurt on an illegal job, it should be the lawbreaking employer that pays for deportation, medical expenses etc...everything.

Yeah right...

Yeah right...
So when an apprentice carjacker gets shot while helping his mentor jack a car the mentor is at fault?
Oh how about if an illegal gets hurt while driving a ford without a license Ford is at fault?
How about this. When you know you are breaking laws and get hurt while doing it then you accept that its your own fault??????
The employers should be busted for hireing illegals. That is their crime.
The illegal working here illegally thats their crime and they should not be rewarded.

Not only should illegal employers be liable for W/C injuries, they should also be forced to foot the bill for the K-12 education of IA children, their prenatal care, and all other expenses associated with illegal immigration. If these greedy dogs want to employ illegals, then let them pay for everything. I’m sick of these unscrupulous employers reaping the benefit of their cheap workforce, while we are stuck holding the bag for their astronomical expenses.

On the other hand, if illegals didn’t choose to ignore our laws, they would be protected like other workers. It’s the price they pay for their unlawful behavior.

I disagree with some of the posts here.I believe employers should be held liable for ALL worker's comp for Illegals in addition they should be slammed for violating all laws pertainining to work, safety, worker's comp,State disability, hours and wages, violating the law by hiring them and also have to pay for all incarceration, immigration detention, hospital and medical bills ,court costs, fines and deportation.Said Illegals and their(enablers) Employers are equally guilty of all violations and crimes.
You don't punish 1 party when it's BOTH of them that are guilty of violating the law.The employers gambled and lost. When you go after the law breaking employers for all costs associated with their criminal acts they will think twice before engaging in this in the future. If the employers are not held accountable what's to deter them from continuing this?

I agree - we wouldn't need E-verify, microchips, or anything else if employers faced actual consequences for hiring illegals. I would fine them out of business or until the cried uncle if their little scam were uncovered.

It's all about the money - if these businesses were to be made aware that they would face stiff penalties and/or actual incarceration for hiring/employing illegals, they'd be whistling a different tune.

For the record on this thread and as I have mentioned many times on this forum, I also believe employers should be fined, jailed and lose their license for a determined amount of time if not all together. They are the ones that started all this mess.
