And yet your area has some of the most vocal communist/socialist/anti-capitalist groups in the country. Go figure.
It does. That's the thing of it: we have leftists in Berkeley smoking pot and advocating all sorts of socially-oriented things, and we have a huge banking and venture capital system making people TONS of money in San Francisco. This is a Manhattan of the West, and there are a ton of successful people here. A full quarter of my friend's 2008 graduating Harvard class is employed here in the Bay area. So it's a complete melting pot of ideas and perspectives here. Guess what? It's not a bad thing, and no one is really hurt by the differences. The sky is not falling. We don't feel the need to censor anyone. It's obviously not perfect here, but the problems that we have are the same as pretty much anywhere else in a really bad recession.
Sounds like you're not very technologically savvy. You know when you go on websites and pictures and stuff comes up? Animations and video and all that? Pretty much all done with and developed from Bay area technology (ever heard of Flash)? And what kind of a processor do you have in your computer? Good chance that your router comes from Cisco... So every time you turn on and log on, you're supporting the Bay area. Thanks!
So we have the Bay area to blame for pop-up ads and advertising animation that slows down the page loading? Thanks for the info. Oh, and I use highly restrictive settings on my computer to help block most of that garbage.

But I digress...
Except most other places don't have a percentage of the population forming a protest at the drop of a hat and blocking off traffic in key areas of the city. Most other places don't have elected city government officials actively working against the US Military while saying they support the troops.

Most places in California don't have that either...but how would you know, you've probably never even been there. Berkeley's not even in the 10 biggest cities in the Bay Area let alone California--yet just because you remember some news story you heard--you act like it's the center of the goddamn state.
Boycotts are stupid. Almost as stupid as people who call for them.
Thanks for your intellectual offering, calling concerned and activist-minded consumers and citizens "stupid" . . . guess we know how involved YOU are in the welfare of the country.

I think what she meant was boycotts she don't agree with are stupid. But ones she agrees with are perfectly fine.

So now are you boycotting Seattle-area businessees too Dave? Better not use Microsoft products either---I guess your computer must run on Linux and not Windows. Unless you have an Apple---another California company.
