Respectfully, you didn't answer the Op's question. After having Democratic majors in Chicago since the 30s, wouldn't one think Chicagoans would want to try the other party for once?

My guess is that one reason is that it's very hard to convince African Americans to vote Republican.

My response would be because we are smart !! The gop owns downstate Illinois because farmers for years have been brainwashed by the GOP to beleive the GOP cares at all about farmers when all they do care about is $ first and foremost. End of discussion.

Because their are so many dead people there. Dead people are notorious for voting for democrats, especially in Chicago.
