Does anyone know any details about the wind farm that's going to be built around Bishop Hill, particularly how close the turbines will be to town? I've read everything I can find online but haven't found any details. Does anyone know exactly where they're going to be built?

I would contact Henry County and inquire. I used to live near the area and am interested in the progress as well.

Henry County Zoning Department and the office of Invenergy in Galva, IL both have maps that show the (tentative) sites for the turbines.

Have you found these maps on-line?

Newutopian: Thanks. Good to know. I was looking at some property there, but I'll get a copy of the map before I go any further.

mdand3boys: If I find the maps online, I'll post the link here.

We went to the Invenergy office in Galva late this afternoon - were able to spend quite a bit of time with their large map that shows property ownership, and which property has enrolled their acreage in the wind energy program, plus where rural houses are located, and (importantly) where the huge wind turbines will be sited. In Phase 1, there are 133 sites, already settled. They are all at least 1000 feet from any home of a person/property who has not enrolled; which means, apparently, that someone who has enrolled--and is being paid has--also agreed to a turbine that may be closer than 1000 feet to their house. Phase 1 is to be completed in 2011. They will also spend 2011 selecting sites from others who have enrolled their property, and build 133 more wind turbine sites in 2012. They also stated they are not accepting any property to be enrolled. Further, their maps of wind turbine locations are available only for review, not for copying. It could be the GIS office at the Henry County Courthouse in Cambridge will let this information out their door.
