This is such happy and positive news, it is the role the government to regulate marriages. I so totally hope this passes

Illannoy Lege-a**-lay-TORS shoulda dun it rite da furst time.

It is absolutely ignorant that all states have not heard the Voice of We The People. It is equally ignorant to walk on egg shells for two or three.

In California a premature effort on the part of the ELITES to force such. changes lead to multiple costly ballot initiatives and court challenges. Sometimes the voices one hears are only the things that are spoken by those of like-minded believers and the real will of the people takes more effort to determine...

I can understand how this could happen in the Northeast, considering the inroads the secular left have made there, but Illinois? I didn't think the gay lobby had much influence in Illinois. Is this a case of "what Chicago wants, Illinois gets"?

Yes definitely mouldy - I know that many are worried about broad language in the bill (sneaking in questionable content into a bill in Illinois, what a surprise)... that many churches will be forced legally to provide marriage ceremonies to same sex couples. If this is the case, I smell lawsuits a mile away.

It is explicitly stated in the bill that no religious institutions will be forced to perform any same-sex marriages if they deem that it goes against their religion. The marriage definition will be for the state. It may be of interest to everyone that they actually read the bill instead of speculating...

I'm glad the legislators have taken up "important" issues instead of fixing the state's dire budget issues and economy. What a joke.

It really wouldn't matter if it was only Chicago that supported it, or if no cities/counties supported it. Rights can't be taken away by the majority.

However, your assessment is actually VERY off. The most recent statewide poll done on the bill shows 50% of the state supporting. In Chicago, support was 56%, in the suburbs it was 52%, and lookey here....48% of downstate Illinoisans support the bill, A PLURALITY due to the percentage that are unsure. A tip of the hat to downstate, I am proud of you.

Also, don't use the "Illinois gets what Chicago wants" argument just because of your opposition to something. Clearly downstate does not share your values either.

Seriously, what "rights" are you talking about? Rights cannot be taken away if they are not given. There is nothing in the Bill of Rights that guarantees marriage for anyone, straight or otherwise. I used to support gay marriage, or civil unions til the P.C. police and their bully tactics had me fed up with the way they were pushing the issue. In my opinion, it will open the flood gates of waste, fraud, and abuse, while only benefiting a small number of people. While we are one of the worst states to do business with, along with other "blue" states CA, NY, MA, we also rank number one in debt. Yet social issues are more important to Springfield than getting things fixed. And you wonder why people are leaving.
