Let's call a spade a spade. Illinois is being run by the mob.

Vote for the Fair Tax Now! Or else there will be severe consequences. Just like what Governor JB’s team did a few weeks ago.
Threat? Lol

I grew up in the south side near Rockwell . Before I left, I was living in Orland park . The weather here is great right now . October is my favorite month for central Texas .

Lol you missed that train a while ago. I live outside Austin . Moved here from Chicago 6 years ago... it wasn’t that bad when we got here . Now there’s just too many damn people . Opportunity is here though . Luckily I don’t ever go to the city

So last Friday I had a business occasion to head back to my old neighborhood in Chicago from which I recently evacuated my family. In the immediate area is a CPS school, and surrounding said school was a phalanx of Safe Passage employees.

For those not familiar, Safe Passage employees are like street chaperones who are supposed to deter gang members from attacking each other while their various factions head to the same or adjacent schools.

Now, having no kids heading toward these schools on account of there currently being no in-person classes at this time seems to be no reason for these bureaucrats to not carry on with whatever they do. And it also seems to be no deterrent for the city to charge its taxpayers for this wholly unnecessary service. One might also question the need for this service in a neighborhood were knock-downs command roughly $400K.

As I observed these bureaucrats collecting a paycheck while doing nothing for no reason where they're not needed at any rate, it seemed a perfect metaphor for how this state is mis-managed and why it's in the dumpster.

Maybe they're needed to provide safe passage for the Custodial staff to get to the schools, who are also getting paid, and I presume, "going to work", although with no kids in class, there isn't much for them to do. But I'm pretty sure they'll toe the party line and vote as directed on Nov. 3rd, which is no coincidence.

Not directly related but one example of how the "rich" will simply figure out how to dodge this income tax hike. They won't just sit there and take it like a noogie rendered in the high school locker room. And that they're rich usually indicates that they're smarter than our elected officials (not that this is a high bar or anything).

TV ads for both sides are misleading. Some call it the "fair tax" others the ."politicians tax hike amendment" but the ballot question reads neither!

The latter is an accurate interpretation of the amendment. I'd say the former is inaccurate. Even if you believe it's fair to soak people who have worked to earn over $X income in taxes without any plan to reduce spending or make hard decisions as to our massive pension liability, those folks are not going to end up paying substantial state income taxes at the end of the day. As I said above, the rich don't tend to have high stated incomes because they have ways to reduce it, and they'll just get a little more creative if the amendment passes, in various ways, and some will be unintended I'm sure. The recent outrage over Trump's tax returns should tell you that, but I guess in today's climate, it's easy to compartmentalize things.

Income taxes are going up. The voters will decide whether it will be raising the flat tax across the board or passing the fair tax amendment. Either way they are going to raise revenue to pay the deficits of of past governors. Pick your poison
