Ultra-Woke Illinois Mandates Are Top Threat to U.S. Education

https://www.nationalreview.com/corne...24T5owI21WIOU4

..On February 16, The Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) of the Illinois General Assembly will decide whether to officially enact a rule already approved by the Illinois State Board of Education. The new rule is called “Culturally Responsive Teaching and Leading Standards.” It’s a doozy. Should the rule be ratified on February 16, the entire Illinois teacher corps will be effectively forced into political re-education and compelled to turn their classes into woke indoctrination sessions. We’ll look at details, but the most extraordinary in a raft of outrageous dictates is that teachers must “embrace and encourage progressive viewpoints and perspectives.” Illinois is literally about to mandate that every one of its licensed teachers adopt progressive political orthodoxy and impart that ideology to students. I’ve seen some pretty extreme stuff in my time, but my jaw is now officially on the floor....

There is a sick part of me that wouldn't mind seeing this pass. Sort of like Chavez's experiment in Venezuela that can demonstrate to everyone what Socialism and cronyism leads to.

The 2030 census would be telling.

Perhaps the OP can find some of this in their Florida move..... Old English Conservative School System it had a redo for 50+yrs ago. Not merely uniforms that many still do. They never wore a pledge Allegiance Nations Flag. New of Old.... it was not putting out best of the best if kids homelife was unsteady and not fully conditioned to learn. It takes a Village at home too, good genes and a mindset that some fail to produce of will-power and growing-up. Perhaps have a New Bible with the Constitution of the US in as to note it goes with it.... and pledge of Allegiance also. I remember that in the 1960s. Was no biggie really. Cold War era was a key it stayed.... once the Cold War ended. Sort of was less seen as a lesson to repeat as a repetitious Prayer.... though only one say a day.

Classic 50 yr old video of their music that added to Change in music then to today and on how schools
changed then. We in the US had our Change also in the 1960s. We all survived... I went though it. Not
hand hitting teachers. They were in the Catholic Schools. They too survived though. If you did not perform
there.... they sent you to public school.

Just another Brick in the wall Some will politicalize as any teaching of darker side of Black history or
Civil War in states that were part of it is Woke to knowledge that Gay people can lead normal lives....
they abhor Normal used.

"Illinois has already laid the groundwork for this assault on the Constitution by enacting a so-called civics law that forces teachers to discuss current political controversies in class."

OH! THE HORRORS!

It was called Current Events when I was in school in the 70s. Funny enough - want to know where it was taught?

ARKANSAS. One of the most bass-ackwards states in this country. I moved away to go to college and had to take 18 months of extra classes to make up for the lack of math and science classes in Arkansas.

Still, our Civics teacher was excellent. We learned all the different branches of gov't; why they existed and their purpose in checks and balances. The knowledge was imparted without agenda and was pretty dry, actually. We also had one day each week where students would have to choose a news story and present it to the class at a podium. Small classes back then, so time was given to discuss those stories. That was the interesting part of class. Young people bopping ideas back and forth. It was called "debate" back then and didn't inspire the kind of meanness I see today.

I was born in Illinois. My roots go back to the settling of the state by white people. I remember it as a Democratic, liberal, but firmly union-supporting working class state in the time of my parents and grandparents. They voted Democrat because that was the working class party. Republicans were (and still are) the rich, upper crust who looked down on the workers employed at places like the munitions plants. Also, the farmers. I don't know when the change happened, but Illinois was prosperous then, despite the corruption in Chicago.

I'm glad I moved away and stayed away if people in that state are going to be influenced by the crap conservative rags like the National Review.

Yeah Illinois just keeps going down further into that dark hole of absurdity. Kind of like leaving your dinner too long in the oven. It's going to get crisped beyond recognition. Just glad I still have memories intact when it was a reasonably sane place to be. Now it's like some Sci-Fi destruction movie......except it's real which I still have to shake my head to remind me. Mainly glad I'm far more than a thousand miles from that insanity
