Hi guys - We're moving to Bloomington as soon as we can because we have been accepted to the university there.

We've done as much research as we can but I think that now it's time to ask the you the locals about neighborhoods. We found a small cottage on North Cold Springs Road. Can anyone tell me what that side of town is like? We have no pets and more than anything, don't want to move into a rat's nest and pay $900-1200 a month for a small house if we don't have to. A nice quiet neighborhood will be fine even if we have to drive out a little bit out of town.

Thanks

The Cold Springs Road I found is NE of Bloomfield, IN. That would be about 35 - 45 minutes SW of Bloomington and your commute would be on a 2 lane road. I don't know anything about the neighbors/neighborhood.

Thanks but I wanted information about the neighborhood more than the location.

It's rural Indiana. It may be very quiet or you may have a neighbor who likes to work on their race car engines in the evening or target shoot off the back deck.

I think the point is that "Cold Springs Road" is not in the city of Bloomington, it's in Bloomfield Indiana, which is 45 minutes away down a very windy two-lane road. Bloomfield is a very small town with a Dairy Queen and a grocery store. Trust me, you want to look for a house to rent in Bloomington. There are many nice rural areas around the city, which has an urban growth boundary, so the houses outside of town are likely to be older and away from shopping, etc.

I lived there for five years when I attended graduate school, and I'd recommend living on the near West Side. You're close to downtown, a quick walk or bike ride from campus, and away from the partying undergrads. South of campus is OK too, but a lot more noise on weekends. Immediately east of campus is alright too, but there housing stock isn't so great, and the nearest shopping is mostly in auto-centric shopping centers. You'll need a car in Bton most likely, but you won't want (or need) to use it every day.
