I have never experienced people passing on the right shoulder when someone is turning anywhere but here. I noticed it was really bad today as I was trying to get to Brown County Park, with no luck due to traffic. Everyone seems to pass on the right here. What gives?

If someone is turning left and there's no turn lane, a lot of people will carefully pass on the right shoulder. Typically I think people will just slow down if they can see you will be able to turn quickly, but if it's going to be a bit they'll pass. Down here in Floyd County it's a nearly constant stream of traffic down 150 toward Louisville in the mornings with no breaks and almost no traffic signals on a road that's one lane in each direction. If you're headed the other way and someone in front of you is trying to make a left turn in Galena, you could be sitting there for a very long time.

As for Brown County, it was probably a local that's just sick of the two useable roads in and out of Nashville being constantly clogged with all the leaf peepers this time of year. I can imagine my patience would be a little worn if I lived there in the fall.

I was jammed for about 45 mins between the interstate and the park. When I found a driveway, I just turned back and went home. I've never seen anything like that, even going into the Smokies. I will go down 37 next time.

Saw this all the time when I lived in Arkansas.

I also drove to Brown County today down SR 135. The only folks I saw pass on the right shoulder were motorcyclists.

46 was backed up for well over ten miles. I've never seen anything like that in rural Indiana. I may just go to Summit Lake tomorrow, even though it sucks compared to Brown County.

70 degrees and peak colors. Had to be expected.

Yep, the better way to go would have been 65 down to the Franklin exit then cut west to 135 south and down through Trafalgar. If you see this early enough, maybe consider going to McCorkmick's Creek in Spencer instead of Summit Lake. You'll get way more of the fall colors down there and it's more similar to Brown County though not nearly as large or quite as hilly. Plus, it's about the same distance as Brown County from Indy and not as crowded.

I expected a few more cars. Not a standstill from the interstate to Bloomington.
