I am Michigan born and bred. I have lived in Gladwin county, Detroit, Newaygo County, and Grand Rapids. I have 2 children {boy is 10, girl is 4}, I am married, have been with the same man for 11 years. I am not religious as much as spiritual. Our beliefs are purely Native American {which I do not think is widely accepted in the majority of the U.S.} We have pow-wows here in GR and we attend each. I have a very high sense of family and what I want for my children and what I would like them to experience.

My husband has recieved a job offer in Bedford {Lawrence County} and I have done ALOT of research on the town and businesses. I have NEVER lived out of Michigan and would like to hear some of your views on Southern Indiana. I am moving a week from today {the 11th of march} and would like very much to learn as much as i can beforehand.

Thank you in advance for those of you that reply.

Hmm--where to begin...
I live in the county directly north of Lawrence county--in Monroe County. Most of Monroe County has a Bloomington address, but I do live about equiadistance between Bedford and Bloomington. I used to drive down to Bedford more frequently than now as one of my children had an activity there, but no longer.

Bedford is a small town. With that goes some small town views and a bit a cliqueishness. Overall the people are friendly though. I don't think your spiritual beliefs will be fully understood by many. I don't think it would prevent you from being accepted, but will be very much outside of the norm. It tends to be a bit conservative there.

I think you might have felt a bit more comfortable up in here Bloomington, but I do understand that your husband may want to be a bit closer to work. (Although several of my neighbors work in Bedford and live here.)

In Bloomington there is one or two pow-wows per year. Usually open to the public, and I'm sure your input would be welcome. Get in touch with the anthropology dept at IU. I believe it's connected to the efforts.

There is a group for Native Americans at the university.

Default Moving to Indiana

Can anyone tell me information on Bedford, In. I like the fact that Bedford is a small town. Can you tell me what kind of resturants, night life, type of community it is, and any information on real estate buy/rent... Thanks.
