We use to go down to Turkey run all the time too. Been to all our state parks spent many nights camping in them also. Now it is just a BTDT with our kids.

Our state parks & reservoirs offer a lot of things to do with not much money to spend to do them.

I love that about the state parks. And Indiana's parks are beautiful. As they say, "There's a lot more than corn in Indiana!"

I've not visited all of the parks yet. Hope to see more of them in the next year or two.

Have you been on the toboggan run at Pokagon? I've only been there during summer and fall, so haven't been on the toboggan. Looks like it would be a blast!

Oh yes! When in high school friends and I would go up there in the winter it is a blast. In fact I lost my first contact on that toboggan slide. They did hay rides in the fall and a special one during winter time. It was spectacular at night riding through that state park off the beaten paths. We got to see a herd of deer feeding in a valley lit by the moonlight & reflecting off the snow it was a Hallmark moment.

One year we made it a point to visit every state park in a summer. Then we did it again once we had kids of course we found our favorite parks and would visit them over and over camping. Good memories.

Agreed. My parents used to take my brothers and I to Turkey Run every year. Loved hiking up the creek to the waterfall, exploring the caverns and other interesting rock formations. I have many great memories there.

Chain-o-Lakes (sp?) is another one of my favorites. So many lakes to canoe in and out of, great hiking trails too.

I haven't been to many in Southern Indiana. Hoosier Nat'l Forest is on my list.

Oh yeah forgot about Brown County! Is that part of HNF? If so, guess I already have been there lol. My family used to spend Thanksgiving there because it was a nice halfway (well, closer to us) point between Valpo and extended family in TX and AL. Really pretty area of the state, and loved DT Nashville.

I've not been to the HNF, either. Hope to see it this coming summer.

Have you ever taken the water tour through the cave at Spring Mill State Park near Mitchell? It's way cool.

They recently improved the campgrounds at Indiana Dunes State Park, which is about 20 mins due north from my home. Very nice sites. And the Lake Michigan beach is beautiful. Hiking the dunes is a great workout!
