The weather will be better in Baton Rouge in the winter ... but much much much much more humid during the summers. Coming from Bahrain, not sure if you or your wife will enjoy a hoosier winter ... so my nod goes to LSU on that one. Food ... LSU hands down ... I'd give just about anything to have multiple authentic cuisines to choose from, creole, french ... I'm hungry! Culture, again, LSU ... you're within proximity of the Gulf of Mexico/New Orleans (Muncie is about as landlocked as it gets) ... but the crime thing ... I think Muncie may be safer, but then again, Baton Rouge is a big city.

Have you posted over on the Louisian board? Not sure in Baton Rouge has it's own thread.

Another thing, I'm went ahead and looked on the Louisiana board and saw that you will be looking for Halal restaurants or grocers ... I didn't find anything in Muncie. There are a few, not many on the west side of Indianapolis ... and that's a hike from Muncie. The Islamic Society of North America is located in Plainfield, Indiana ... you may want to peruse their website. ISNA.NET - main page

Students here are very cliquey, and somewhat stuck up.
I would not call BSU mediocre by any means. My wife graduated in 2006, and I've seen and heard nothing but good things about that school.

Muncie on the other hand, IS mediocre.

Default is it late?

I am a Turkish physician living near Muncie?
If you did not make up your mind yet, Muncie might be nice for safety and its small islamic community. Baton Rouge will be good if you are into sports, night life and entertainment. Winter in Muncie is quite cold, be prepared.
Good luck!!

Go to LSU. You'll be much happier for it, in the end.

Thank you everyone for your replies... I wasn't accepted at Ball State University, so I have my admission in LSU plus admissions from UK and Australia. The Australia offer sounds a good choice so I might go with it over Baton Rouge. What do you think?

Thanks domergurl..I got accepted at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia and the place really sounds more attractive than Baton Rouge. Although I always prefered doing course work PhD in the US, I think I will be more comfortable staying in Australia and doing a research-based PhD...
