Controversial Restaurant Drops Liquor License Appeal - Indiana News Story - WRTV Indianapolis

Whenever anyone ever dares to mention the number of backwards-thinking kooks that we have here, there are always those on the defensive denying it. While not everyone is like that, I think that attitude is still the dominant Hoosier mindset.

So if you are considering the Indy metro area, you ought to read the article above to see with what you're dealing before coming here.

Show Me's is horrible. Indianapolis should be commended for not wanting that slop here.

You act as if such an establishment wouldn't raise eyebrows in the vast majority of the largest metros in this country. It would. Indiana is hardly unique in that respect. The article notes that church groups were among the most vigorous opponents. Should that be a surprise? You'd find the same opposition coming from the megachurches in Bakersfield, CA.

I'll agree to the extent that it may have been an overreaction on the part of some folks. More than likely the place would've closed after a short while due to crap food, which is what I think of Hooters. Personally, I think it's a credit that many Hoosiers reject this kind of low-brow junk.

And if you want to see prudish, try going to areas of the south with dry counties -- no bars, liquor stores....nothing. Folks in those areas generally believe that alcohol is sinful so they ban its sale. That's prudish.

The one in Evansville is like Hooters, but the food is terrible.

I think they have buffets at many of the Indianapolis area strip clubs. I wonder how those got past the watchful eye of the Bible thumpers. Maybe because no kids allowed.

Oh well. On a personal level I doubt I would have paid top dollar for crappy food just because its served by a hot waitress....but on a cultural level its a little annoying that we have so many holier-than-thow types around. And, hey, sleazy women need jobs too =)

Well in that case are the churches boycotting it because of the food lol? Otherwise we should do what the Tea Party wants and leave the government out of private businesses right. Isn't this SOCIALISM? I know that went way off topic, but it seems a bit hypocritical that the conservatives think the government is too involved in our everyday lives, yet they want the government to ban a business from opening.

OK, but if we're really that "prudish" then how is it that Hooters and strip clubs aren't in short supply in Indy? I can't explain exactly why they chose to challenge this proposed establishment, but obviously they aren't stopping everything.

I disagree. Not in most major metro areas.

Bakersfield, CA is not even close to being a major metro area.

We can agree on that. I prefer the free market to shut them down for bad food rather than a bunch of religious kooks.

Yeah, but again you are comparing Indianapolis to some wacko small towns in the deep South where someone forgot to tell them that Jesus drank wine. I do know that in Georgia they have restaurants where the waitresses serve you your food fully nude.
