Looking for a nice one bedroom apartment near Mass. Ave. Took a look at Lockerbie Court today and was pretty happy with what they have to offer. I was wondering if anyone had heard anything about those apartments or had any recommendations for other options in the Mass Ave. neighborhood.

Hmmm. I never came across a Lockerbie Court that wasn't condos, so I don't know anything about that. If I were going to rent near Mass. Ave., I'd rent at the Garden Arch, which is a block off Mass Ave, although these are all two bedrooms I believe, so you may not be interested.

What is your price range? Are you only looking for one bedrooms?

I found Garden Arch's website and it looks awesome! They're a couple hundred cheaper than Lockerbie too.

As far as price range goes, I'd like to keep it less than $1000/month. Ideally a large 1 bedroom. Any other ideas based on that? I'm wanting to tour as many as I can this week.

I would check out Riley Towers. I lived there years ago and loved it.

This is a great question, I have been a long time Indianapolis resident and if I were going to move tomorrow I would want an apartment on Mass Ave.

I saw Riley Towers many years ago and my thoughts were that they were really nice, very small, and expensive. And depending which side of a tower you lived on, may have a great view. They are building another mini-tower due to the Cultural Trail running next to it. So keep in mind this neighborhood will have construction in the near future.

There are upartments above the Starbucks ... I would think this is the perfect location but all I've heard about them is that they need painting.

There are condos across the street from Starbucks, these have a red door on the front. A friend of mine lived in these, they are great and open up into a courtyard. Once in awhile I see a "For Rent" sign here.

Good luck!

The thing about Riley Towers that turned me off when I moved here a year and a half ago was what I heard about the company currently managing it. I found a lot of people with negative things to say.

So I thought I'd break down what I found out about these different places:

Reilly Towers
$1000/month
Parking - $70 month
Laundry - by the load or $40/month for one in your apt
~800 sq. ft
Utilities are included except cable and internet
- This was my favorite because of the good reputation (just do a google search for reviews) and the great location. They also have a gym, sauna, tanning bed, whirlpool, and computer lab on site.

Lockerbie Court
$950/month
Parking $70
~800 sq. ft
Utilities are included except electric
- This was my second favorite because of the great character of the place. High ceilings, amazing porch, and a little beat up looking. Leaning for Reilly b/c it lacked the gym access and availability is questionable

Garden Arch
$800/month
No utilities included
They were not able to give me tours because they did not have any units available
Woman on the phone wasn't that helpful when I told her I was interested so I was left with a little bit of a sour taste on this one. Van Rooy has a great reputation though and I'll still consider it when it gets closer to my move in date.

Davlan (apartments above starbucks)
$650/month
~700 sq. feet
Not sure about utilities
Wasn't able to tour an apt and the woman suggested I come back closer to the time of move in when they may have places available.

Riley Towers also had a large room that you could rent for parties and small receptions. They asked that you pay a deposit. I lived in Tower 1 adjacent to the pool. I was on the NW corner of the 16th floor. Incredible views. loved sitting on the balcony when a nice thunderstorm was moving in. You could see for miles.

Ahaha. I know who you talked to. Yeah, if you ever need to call Van Rooy again, ask to work with Chad. He's much more helpful.

They told you no utilities paid? That seems odd. Every Van Rooy property I've seen paid water/sewer/garbage. That's too bad that doesn't seem to be the case at the Garden Arch.

I'm surprised about Riley Towers, when we first moved here I looked at them, but the reviews I saw (that were real) and the people we talked to had very negative things to say about the management company. At least some people have had good experiences. It seems like it would be a neat place to live.
