Hi, my husband is being relocated to Indianapolis from Virginia. We narrowed down our search to homes in either Fishers or Carmel. We would be looking for homes around 300,000-360,000. I am overwhelmed by all the different neighborhoods and need advice. We have 3 young kids and are looking for a neighborhood with newer homes with lots of young children, kids activities, and pool, and a basement. Any suggestions of good neighborhoods we should look at?

If you can find something in carmel west of 31 the better. You wont go wrong in either city school wise. In those 2 cities i would work with a realtor and look for what you like.

Carmel has one high school. They have blocked efforts/suggestions of building a second high school. Their high school is huge. Fishers (Hamilton Southeastern Schools) have two high schools. They have also discussed building a third, much smaller high school for very smart students with a focus more on education. I'm thinking the third high school won't have much in terms of sports teams.

How about Westfield, south of 32 but north of 146th street? It's basically an extension of Carmel. It's a great area and the school district is Westfield Washington Township schools and is excellent.

According to the literature provided to me by the town council, students at the third high school would still be assigned to either Fishers or HSE as their "home" school, and if they choose to play sports, they would play for their home school.

I would think about the location of your husbands new job. IMO (In My Opinion), Fishers has one way in and one way out, which is I-69. I travel a very short distance on I-69 each morning on my way into the office and see traffic heading south backed up for MILES. Glad I don't live in Fishers!!! I would recommend Carmel, west of 31 as well. I know you specifically mentioned Carmel and Fishers, but maybe give Zionsville a look. Nice homes, great school, close to interstates which lead to all arteries of the city!

Best of luck, bcmclaug!

Oh my ... that is NOT true at all. When we lived in Fishers, we took Olio to 70and in. I used to take Binford Blvd. into the city as well. I took Fall Creek Pkwy in a couple times just to see and it was fine. Allisonville Road is also an alternative. Wow .. I'm shaking my head here.

Carmel's main artery into the city is 31, which is no picnic.

There are alternatives on the northside.

I live in carmel and drive both areas often at all times of day. I avoid 465 during busy rush times in morning and eve. Main roads aplenty for both areas. You can avoid 31 by driving on roads on either side of 31 that run the same way. Pennselvania i think is one of them. All the mentioned short cuts work for fishers too.
