They announced plans at the beginning of the month.
Circle Centre closes in on deals for Bobby's Burger Palace, Yard House, LA Fitness | 2014-01-03 | Indianapolis Business Journal | IBJ.com

I would have preferred to see another high-end department store go in there, but this will at least increase foot traffic on Georgia and Maryland.

Do you think there is enough demand for a high end department store? Wasn't that the reason that Nordstrom left?

I read some of the comments on that article. People are complaining that Indy can only attract chain restaurants.

Yardhouse and Bobby's Burger Palace are chains, but very small chains that only exist in a few large cities. I think those are some good choices, I have heard great things about Yardhouse.

Bonefish does bring up some questions. That's more of a suburban and kind of common chain restaurant, I Think they could have done better, but at least they found someone to take up the space.

Good to see LA Fitness make it's move there. I may be joining them later this year. I look forward to using the new downtown location for my workouts.

Nordstrom has a location at the Fashion Mall, which cut into the downtown location's business. People are complaining about chains in the downtown core, but what can you expect? It's designed for convention business.

I not a big fan of chains either but it's better than vacant spaces in a area with no traffic at all.

There won't be a department store since the Indy Star is taking over the top couple floors of that building. Basically it's just going to be small retail and restaurants left on the ground floor with the LA Fitness (I think, haven't read this article) taking up two floors.

I agree with grmasterb. The downtown core, especially Circle Centre, is designed around the convention crowd. It's going to have more chains while the more local establishments will be along the canal, Mass Ave, and Virginia/Fountain Square.

I really don't mind the chain restaurants. It's going to be good for tourism. Plus, most cities have a lot of chain restaurants in their downtown areas. It actually shows strength in the downtown market. As a local, I'm just happy that we are seeing neighborhoods surrounding downtown gaining many more local restaurants.
