K, now that the ads and such are picking up steam, who do you feel would be the best mayor for the capital city. A couple of points:

1. Melina Kennedy's 8 point public safety plan
1) True Community Policing
OK, what's the definition of true community policing

2) Increase the Number of Police Officers
Just how is she going to pull that off? The city is taxed almost to the max with more on the way more than likely, what are the citizens willing to give up given that the bulk of the 362 sq miles or so are not high crime neighborhoods.

3) Attack Illegal Guns
Uh, shouldn't they be doing that already?

4) Crime Prevention
Shouldn't they be doing that already?

5) Bi-partisan Crime Statistics Task Force
Why do you need a task force to input crime statistics, it's raw numbers and math?

6) Creation of Drug Enforcement and Initiatives Director
So create another 80-100k position out of thin air for a position that's not needed. Why do you have a public safety director and a police chief and what 4 deputy chiefs?

7) Centralized Grants Office
K, I can see centralizing paperwork, makes it more streamlined

8) Technology
Oh yeah, someone just told her to add that.

Please. Check your history and you'll find there's plenty of blame for both sides.

I predict that the city-county council will have a Democrat majority but that Ballard will win re-election easily.

There really isn't any. It is about officers interacting with the community, being nice. It is just a feel good and sound good program. Last community policing meeting in one metro district had a massive turnout of about six or so people.

Most large PDs are top heavy. A certain % of the department advances in their career. They get ranked and then help their friends who aren't supervisors get internal jobs, some of which could be totally do nothing jobs. A city-county councilor had a do nothing job with IFD. Of course they claimed he had a handful of laughable duties, yet needed supervisor pay to do those duties.

In addition, there are actual police officers who work down in the city-county building Mon-Friday day shift and do internal functions. Most don't need take home police vehicles, as the only thing they may ever be called upon to respond to is a major incident, which rarely happens. Yet since a take home police vehicle is part of the benefits for the rest of the cops, these "cops" get one as well.

She had been on record as wanting to do away with the position of public safety director and have the IMPD and IFD heads report directly to the mayor. She is a typical politician and any money saved from cutting that position will just be used to pay some political hack placed in another position.

Actually, you're both wrong. The word you are both looking for is "fewer," not "less."

Sorry, but I hate to see the English language butchered. Call me a "grammar Nazi" if you want.
