I will probably start my search in Plainfield and just talk to a realtor about the surrounding towns. I don't mind a small commute but don't want to drive any further than needed.

Be sure to check out Avon. You're a little more rural than Plainfield depending on what part you're in, and it's easily accessible and has great schools.

To me, Plainfield feels more like an established town that happens to be next to Indianapolis; whereas Avon is straight suburban and owes its existence to the fact that it is next to Indianapolis.

I would agree with that.

Does anyone know anything about Brownsburg? A realtor that I was talking to said they have good schools and great sports programs for youth. I'm heading up to this area tomorrow to meet some coworkers and look around. I'll probably look around mainly in Planifield, Avon, and Brownsburg.

Brownsburg is an excellent area and still a relatively easy commute to Plainfield, depending on where in Plainfield you need to be.

Property values are probably a little higher than Avon, but the area is very nice and there is a wide range of housing to choose from.

If you stick to Avon or Brownsburg it's tough to go wrong.

I visited a few of the towns this past week and really liked the area. I will probably end up looking for a home in Plainfield because that is where I will be working and it seems like a nice town. I did look at Brownsburg and Avon and both also looked like a great place to live. Most of the houses that I am looking at are in Plainfield. Are there any areas of Plainfield that I should stay away from? I don't want to live in a brand new subdivision without a yard. I like to have a big yard either on the outside of town or in a subdivision with large lots. Thanks for the help.

When in Plainfield you have to try Al's Donuts on W. Main. Wonderful doughnuts and great service. And Grays cafiteria.

Soccerdad, what did you think about the traffic in that area? We are looking at the same 3 areas you mentioned and are leaning towards Avon. We keep reading that the traffic is horrible.

Traffic in Avon is only bad because there is no freeway near it. Rockville Road (US 36) and Washington Street (US 40) are basically the two roads that go from Indianapolis to Plainfield/Avon. Depending on where you live in Plainfield, I-70 is an option and rarely sees traffic backups. Unlike some other parts of the metro, traffic is only bad during rush hour in Avon. If you have to commute to the city and back everyday, then you might find it annoying. Otherwise, it won't be a big issue. Even if you did commute to Indianapolis, it's still better than coming in from Fishers or Noblesville.
