Starting May 2nd, they will put a 150 GB monthly cap on DSL landline customers, and a 250 GB monthly cap on U-verse subscribers. You would have to do a lot of downloading to reach those limits, but folks who stream HD movies might be affected as well as household with multiple internet users. It does kind of suck.
They aren't doing it at the moment. They have been considering it, but have no current plans to do so as of yet. I know if they do, the soultion is simple, drop them, let them know you will drop them and seek a provider that does not apply such. The free market does wonders if the consumer isn't lazy.

Do you live in the US? It doesn't sound like it by the sounds of your post... Otherwise you would know that broadband competition is not available in many areas.
All ISPs will have caps in the near future. Comcast already does.
You can expect them all to put a cap on it. In the past they could offer "unlimited" plans because even heavy users were not using a lot. With so many sites streaming video and the heavy use of P2P this is no longer the case.
Having said that unless you are a heavy user of video services or P2P 250GB is quite a bit. I forget what the exact number was but you could have 3 or 4 people on same connection watching standard youtube vide 24/7.
The other day I installed a free little program that keeps track of my internet usage. It's called ShaPlus Bandwidth Meter. I've found that ordinary web surfing totals to less than 300 MB per day. Even watching Youtube videos doesn't add up to all that much. My internet usage averages to less than a GB per day.
Without any P2P, I use 150gb/month on Comcast. Half of the majority goes to Netflix, while the other half goes to VPN for work (collaboration, document management, and video conferencing). Remember (for comcast, atleast) the bandwidth limit includes both upstream and downstream combined.
You got me beat.....I don't do netflix or much of anything requiring a lot of bandwidth. Biggest single thing I have is about 100MB download each day to backup a database.
That's 3 GB per month, I have maybe 30 to 40 GB per month on average overall.
I work from home and we use up a lot of bandwidth because of file sharing with the home office. I hope they do offer an unlimited plan though because working with hi-res graphics and video will definitely eat up the bandwidth if you do use it. I don't mind paying for more if they give us an alternative to the overage charges.
