I want to buy this Clear Spot Voyager Mobile Hotspot for my iPad4. Anyone have any info about these regarding their reliability? The ipad I got from HSN didn't come with 3G/4G. Most mobile hotspots seem to be about $100. I do NOT want a monthly fee...I want pay-as-you-go for a week, day, or even a couple hours if they offer that.

The company CLEAR has their hotspot for $50, so that's good right there. They also have pay-as-you-go. It says the battery life is 6 hours, maybe up to 8. Fully charged iPads normally last about 10 hrs though, right? I'm just wondering how good the CLEAR brand is.

The good: The tiny Clear Spot Voyager can provide Internet access to up to eight Wi-Fi devices at a time with fast 4G connection speeds, has good battery life, and comes with affordable unlimited data plans. The device immediately works as an Internet source when connected to a non-Wi-Fi computer.

The bad: The Clear Spot Voyager doesn't support 3G, Wireless-N, text messaging, and doesn't have a clear battery life gauge. The mobile hot spot doesn't go into sleep mode, so the battery runs down relatively fast even when there are no connected clients.

The bottom line: Supercompact, affordable, and with fast performance, the Clear Spot Voyager would be a great mobile hot-spot device for those who live and travel within Clear's 4G coverage.

Clear devices do not fall back on the company's previous 3g network (clearwire network). As a result, you'll have to make sure that you're in an area that has Clear 4g coverage. Also, Clear 4g runs on 2.5ghz which means that building penetration is horrible (but speeds are incredibly fast).

It is worth noting that Clearwire is now fully owned by Sprint Corp (formerly known as Sprint Nextel), which is now mostly owned by Softbank (all as of this week). There could be significant changes in the network going forward. Softbank is injecting $16 Billion into the Sprint/Clear network.
