I don't understand why there's so much stigma attached to spending a lot of time on the internet. Why is it pathetic to spend several hours online, using the internet either for research, staying in contact with friends, watching downloaded movies, playing games, or any of the plethora of other activities you can engage in online, when men who sit in front of the TV for six hours every Sunday watching football aren't thought of as pathetic? People who sit and read book after book after book aren't constantly told to "go out" and be with "real people". I don't see the difference.

Well I know I've become a speed-reader almost. Typing is not that fast because I'm trying to watch and proof my spelling but I type pretty fast too, except when my brain and finger coordination don't' want to cooperate. But I would say I spend at least 10 hrs a day online between work, work related real work, and at home. And I hate it when I have to actually go DO something. :-)))
How much time does everyone think too much time on the Internet? I would say more then 30 minutes per day if you are just messing around. No work! Anything more then that you need to be doing something else constructive or spending time around REAL people.
My goodness, I'm sure glad you're not in charge of making a law against long internet use!! I'd be in real trouble! I pop off and on, throughout the day. I read/post on two forums, read/answer my email, read the news, research genealogy, (that alone can take hours, when I'm on a roll, though that is mostly on the weekends), research horse stuff, read history and other educational things, read spiritual/religious websites, shop, (mostly books, horse stuff, and fishing/outdoors), etc. But, I still manage to take care of my family, my horse, my dogs, my cat, and my house. I still balance the checkbook, take care of the bills, take people to the doctor, go to ballgames in the spring, grocery shop, read my books and magazines, cook meals, spend time with my best friend, go fishing with my husband, take on a painting project, watch tv, work outside in the yard, and so on, and so forth. Oh, and I do manage to get some sleep every night!

I guesstimate 6 hours per day counting work
1 hour in the morning responding to emails and reading posts at a couple of forum sites. Just about every morning my routine is start the coffee, read some email, pour the coffee, respond to email, grab a bite, read the forums.
1 to 3 hours of research related to work.
1 hour of reading news sites
1 hour of odds and ends ranging from ebay to financial research.
Of course, I haven't read a newspaper in years, and I rarely watch tv news. The internet is my library as well. It's not that I'm addicted to it, I've just replaced a lot of things with it in the interest of efficiency.
Oh yeah, add at least a total hour for AOL/Yahoo/Skype/Sametime chats. So maybe 7 hours out of 17 awake. Unless of course I surf in my sleep

WONDERWOMAN in the flesh!!!
Wow, you sure do a lot of stuff. How do you manage???
Not to drag this off topic, but I've always been confused at people who frown on spending 30 hours a week on the internet.
These are the same folks who spend 30 hours per week watching TELEVISION.
TV = You sit there, watching, waiting for something to stimulate your mind. It's a LONG wait.
Internet = Constant interaction. Reading, writing, etc. If you want to change the channel, you actually have to THINK about what you're going to search on.
What makes the internet such a bad thing? lol, it's CERTAINLY better than vegetating in front of the television.

I love the internet. I do just about everything on line. Pay bills, keep track of the world, enjoy reading and posting here regarding all kinds of stuff. I think I learn a lot from many of the posters here. You can exchange pics, keep in touch with family and friends, keep your remnders, agenda.... list is endless.
I feel almost guilty sometimes remembering how HARD things used to be before the internet, photocopy machines, printers, faxes, email, chatting. Some of you may not even know those times but just even having to write a letter and actually putting a stamp and going to a mailbox..........
I love technology.
I don't remember how to program a VCR anymore and have no clue how to use the super cable box settings for HDTV and surround sound but my son set it all up and it just cannot go wrong!!!! or he's in deep trouble.
