I defiantly spend more than 30 minutes on here. I have a few sites I check daily like this one. When I am "surfing" the internet, it is usually reference stuff, finding cool places to take my son, researching something, etc..
I would rather be doing something productive on here than watching T.V.. I do not watch daytime television at all.

People who sit and read book after book after book aren't constantly told to "go out" and be with "real people". I don't see the difference.
I agree 100%... that original post was not only rude, but also pretty out of touch with the times. Most people today spend more than 30 minutes/day online, doing all of the things you mentioned above. I'm usually on my laptop with the TV on, like somebody else said, and sometimes while talking on the phone too! I spend my online time here, researching (general interest & for work), emailing, shopping, playing games, downloading music, and so forth.

And yes, "jetsjoe", I spend PLENTY of time with real people. Between my job, orchestra, social outings, neighbors, family time, synagogue, etc., there's enough interaction for me. I'm an extreme night-owl, though, so my friends & family just aren't available at 3am! Check the times (Pacific standard) on my posts, LOL. So yeah, after a long day of dealing with "real" people, I do like to kill time online... big whoop. As long as we're getting the important things done, and not shutting ourselves in, I really don't see a problem with that.

P.S. To justify my high number of posts here, I've been in a weird place for the last few months... finished grad school in late October, but didn't get a full-time job until just recently. So I've been kinda bored, and spent more time online than usual!

I'd say I spend at least 30 minutes (really more) once a week paying bills and looking at my financials on Microsoft Money. I don't know if that is classified as "work"?

I probably spent an hour or two per day online and I don't see any problem with that.

Few-several hours at a time a day depending on what I got to do.

Whereas most people see the internet as a supplement to thier entertainment, it kinda IS my entertainment! I'm really not a TV watcher at all, so all that time people usually watch TV probably feeds into the time I spend online as well most likely.

I spend hours and hours online. However, one can't compare me to the general public. I am wheelchair bound due to paralysis of the lower body. I am confined to the home, except for medical appointments and the monthly trip to the mall...that is all my town's disability transportation is willing to provide. So I am online trying to do my shopping (home delivery), arrange for transportation, read the news, look into other disability options (like transportation), editing my uncle's home videos (not online, but I web-surf while they are being made), volunteer assignments for my town's historical society, look into future employment, entertain myself with Netflix videos, etc. So as you can see, the internet has given me a life. Without it, I would probably be very depressed by now, so I am VERY thankful that I can spend hours and hours online on a daily basis.
