It looks like Microsoft is trying to lure people away from XP, since IE9 will only be supported on Windows 7 and Windows Vista SP2. While Windows 7 has been a reasonable success, not everyone is planning on upgrading.
I don't use or recommend IE. So who cares what MS does?
