Maybe so, but what's with that 6.8 billion dollars in 'unusual expenses' on the 2012 P&L? Sure ate into earnings.

No drill, I'm definitely going to do it and thanks all for your picks...very interesting. Ford was already on my short list and I just read an article about some undervalued stocks for 2013 and Waste Management was on there. There will always be garbage to collect, lol.

It's called Non-Recurring expense. Doesn't matter much if you hold it for 10 years. Unless they constantly making bad investments.

CLNE: Clean Energy is in the business of proving Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) and Compressed natural Gas (CNG) for vehicles. LNG is intended for long range diesel trucks and CNG for more usual truck and car applications. Although not profitable yet, CLNE is well entrenched with the most successful truck stop chain, several trucking companies, most of the waste companies, and bus companies. They report about 350 million is sales, so far with recent sales growth of about 15 - 20& Yr over Yr. Important to know, is that LNG sales have scarcely begun although sites have been built. LNG trucks are only just now shipping to trucking companies.
Their Board of Directors is particularly appealing, to me. I am long CLNE.

SQNM: Sequenom is in the business of Non Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT). NIPT means testing for birth defects and the like without disturbing the baby in the womb. Also not profitable yet, they have started marketing their MateriT21 test and are reporting Yr over Yr sales increases of 60% or so, and Qtr over Qtr increases of 50%, so the trajectory has started.
Learning about Sequenom, NIPT and the market forces is not easy. The language used is very application specific, although the tests being introduced seem to find immediate appeal. They have tests for Down's Syndrom, Cystic Fibrosis, macular degeneration and something called RhD, or Rhesus D syndrom, which causes stillbirth.
Here is a link to an article discussing SQNM. In particular, note the discussion articles, which discuss the potential size of the market for NIPT:

I am long SQNM; you will find some comments and questions from Yours Truly at the link.

Note to "Banned":
You are making a very intelligent move. It is my sincere wish that at the end of this venture you find that you have enough money to buy a house.

Best of Luck

My short list of currently undervalued stock for a long term (2 to 5 years) hold would be BAC, F, GE, DE and ACAS.

MSFT is on the down hill side. PCs are going to slow die off. As tablets and Ipads take over PCs will become the towers of 10 years ago. MSFT is going to die a slow death.

I agree...

I was waiting for Windows 8 before deciding on Microsoft. It's a pretty big flop and a lot of people hate it. Their management is blind. They were wrong about the iPhone, wrong about Windows 8 and wrong about the Surface. I also think the PCs will continue to decline. The only bright light I see for them are most businesses still use their programs (word, excel etc) and their push to open Applelike retail stores. I don't know where their stock will go in the next 5 years, but 10 years from now... I'm not too optimistic. I think the leaders will be Google and Apple.
