I moved to Cedar Rapids in 1994 from southern California. It's been a great place to raise my kids, great schools, great environment. I work in Iowa City and my younger daughter goes to college there. Cedar Rapids is a nice town with pretty much everything you need, and the city is going through a lot of revitalization after the flood of 2008. Much more affordable to live here than in Iowa City. However, I love Iowa City and Des Moines also. If I had a choice at this point, I would choose Des Moines. It is just a larger city and West Des Moines is very well planned out. I don't think you can go wrong ... except for the cold winters. But it's a trade off.
