I saw a magazine article siting Fairfield, IA as a very healthy city with organic produces, cosmic connected houses and meditation practices. I'm in southern California, and the high cost here and traffic is driving us into wanting to get out. I like to know if anyone has been to Fairfield or seen the new Vedic City, supposedly a model city for world peace. I read that it's still affordable there, low crime rate, and great schools for kids. How about the job market? And is the winter season bad? I'm also a martial arts enthusiast, any do-jo there?
Any feedback is appreciated.

I live about 20 minutes from Fairfield. The Maharishi Vedic City is just outside of town. I know nothing about the Maharishi way of life, but I do enjoy living in SE Iowa. As for jobs in that area, mostly agriculture related, a few factories and of course your regular retail/service jobs. Cost of living is very good, 30K/yr goes a long ways here. If you are looking for a lot of glitz and glamour you will not be impressed, although there are several larger towns within an hour where you can find plenty of that. SE Iowa is very relaxed and people here enjoy the surroundings and being outdoors. Winters are pretty cold and will take some adjustment, though curling up around a fire and reading a book can be very pleasant. Several times throughout the winter you will see several inches of snow and some pretty cold winds but once acclimated you will come to enjoy. Other seasons, spring is very pretty, summer nice and hot, fall even more scenic than spring. Fairfield is your typical small town where a local getting married is the big event of the weekend. Crime is very minimal, schools are very good and you will have no problem finding a place to practice martial arts. Hope this is helpful.

Moving to Fairfield, Iowa?
I'm an Asian-American currently living in Southern California. I read the article in Mother Earth News magazine, "Twelve Great Places You've Never Heard Of." It talked about the great qualities of Fairfield, namely the organic food and healthy lifestyle. This intrigued me.

ok...i live in Centerville IA...Fairfield is about 1.5 hrs away from me..Its a fairly large town for southern IA...i think about 10000 people if im right...The maharishi life style actually freaks me out a little...i have heard they sit on there butt and bounce around and what not...why you wanna do that, i have nooooooooooooo idea...as far as can Asian-Americans adjust to life here, i think it can be said that you can...there are two chinese restuarants here(not saying you are chinese) and i have never heard of a hate crime against them or anything like that...houses are fairly cheap...maharishi have a college in fairfield as well..

The Maharishi took over Parsons College in Fairfield, IA which went bust. Maybe I should bring my wife there to see people floating in air practicing Transcendental Meditation. It sounds like some area farmers aren’t buying into TM.
Hey, if the Maharishi can help make people float in air, then maybe they can assist Coach Charlie Weis at ND to make some of his running backs float over the defensive line into the end zone.
