Kind of a general question you are asking. People are people. Every town is going to have friendly and unfriendly people. Impossible to say one town is friendlier than another.

I'm guessing your looking for a small town. Check out Eldora!!!! Hardin County - North Central Iowa. It's a wonderful place IMO.

A friend of mine just bought a house outside of Eldora and got a really good deal, getting several acres of pasture and woods and a decent house for not much money.

I'm guessing but I think he/she will like it there. It's got a nice town square, nice small clean grocery stores, a neat courthouse in the square. And Pine Lake State Park isn't overwhelmingly big or anything but it still offers a nice area of recreation for locals - and a few nice trails. Also - from what I've seen when I'm there the people are very friendly.

Another genuinely friendly town is Latimer - located on I-35 it's TinyTown USA, but great people. Looking for something a tad larger? Consider Hampton, the county seat of Franklin County. Cheap living, jobs with good benefits and very welcoming people. I moved here a couple of years ago and really like it. They have the stores, schools. recreation and healthcare most people are looking for.

Eldora has the quintessential home-town flavor everyone wants. Mayberry-in-a-can.

It always looks scrubbed, also, when I zip through. Pella transplants? I don't know the heritage..

In full disclosure, there is a "Training Camp" for Wayward Youth on the far west edge of town, where the toughest or most misled Iowa kids are sent for rehabilitation.

Hampton is good, too...but somehow not inviting.

Move to Ames.
