This town OMG! they have laws that they only enforce on certain people. They say parking in the yard is illegal and it is never enforced. They do not look for stolen vehicles, you are on your own to find it. They say dogs are not to bark and yet you have to listen to the <people on a lower socioeconomic rung of Caucasian descent> allow the dogs to bark and keep filthy yards omg!
It used to be somewhat tolerable then the old people die or move and then welfare moves in and its all over....

If you take care of your stuff, prepare to have it stolen or ruined by thugs.
I have had a car dumped in front of my house, drunks total out 5 vehicles in a row(only caught since a neighbor was up and followed him), durg deals chased thru and the car dumped in front, people with no license and no insurance racing around the neighborhood, quads and snowmobiles racing up and down. The quads are year round. Nothing is ever done!!!!
I bought this house and got screwed in the deal but I made the best of it and now my view is <people on a lower socioeconomic rung of Caucasian descent> laundry and a junky back yard and a damn dog that carries on, a trashy piece of crap that is revved up or a ride honking to wake them up, oh its not even the beginning of the crap.... Nothing is done.

With all the casinos it has helped the crime rate spike! I had all my stuff on my car stolen from Super 8 on 24th street within 2 hours of checkin in. they and the cops refused to do a thing unless I knew who did it!! AFter driving 22 hours I needed a little sleep!!!!

6 months later my s-10 blazer was stolen, from in front, nothing was done we found it ourselves after 2 weeks of day and night looking for it and it was a few blocks away with a bunch of kids that trashed it... again nothing done!

There is a hugh drug problem in this town and they steal you blind... You have to keep everything locked up and then to make it worse, the crime and shootings from North omaha are coming over here now.

Council Bluffs is basically part of omaha now with all the crime!
oh yeah better yet, you live in ia and work in ne, yea you get to pay 2 state taxes!!! yippee...like its not bad enough.
There is no assistance around here if you lose your job and are white.
you gotta be a crackhead ***** to get assistance around here.
By god, dont get any disease that you need ongoing care for, you'll die before you get proper medical care!

They just raised the cig tax last fall $1.00 like that is gonna make a person quit???
We all are good people at the heart and stopped driving so much 30% less for the state, well, they are taking it on all over to make up for it now.
Is that right? hell no, the roads, you see so many standing around, excuse me, if you dont have funds, you make do with what you have.
its not credit on us and expect us to pay it all!

So, if you can move elsewhere I would say RUN!!!!!
There is no care and share that you have an organic farmers sharing coop around here or anything. you are on your own....
oh yeah one more thing,
I dont know the $$ amount of millions they are spending on this big big shelter for the homeless, but they are making this nice brick complex with all kinds of buildings for the homeless. oMG.. now there will be a parade from omaha to here to move in the shelter and we will have all kinds of crap.

The only good thing now is Google here. Even tho had to sacrafice the drive in movies...that was the only good part of this town!!!

And Going green? ha ha ha they have no clue on doing more to help go green in this town!!!!

So, if you ask advice on if you should move to Council Bluffs? Hell no! Unless you want all your stuff stolen!!!(Including storage units) dont rent one here! It wont be there when you go to get it!

Are you sure you're not one of the "<people on a lower socioeconomic rung of Caucasian descent>" after all?

Your grandparents probably lived on the east side which is the nice part, the west side is the bad part that was described

Thumbs down Iowa?

No, Iowa is not my place to live. I moved there for two months and hated it.
Thank You,

Sounds like you are just a victim in life huh? If you live in the getto, what do you expect. I doubt all Council Bluffs is like this.

I lived for Council Bluffs for over a year in 04 -05 and I lived on the west part (off of 35th and Ave G) and I never had any of the problems the OP described, in fact it was quite nice. I love how so much of everything you need is right there on Broadway... Fast food, gas station, groceries, blockbuster, 480 to Omaha, etc. Life was really convenient there... I had more problems in Omaha when I moved to 30th & Dodge area!
