Your last sentence is pretty well exactly what a Catholic priest told me when I had a discussion with him back in high school.

The subject we're discussing was my contention that either Mary committed adultery or Jesus was a bastard. That discussion lasted for about 45 minutes until the priest finally did give up and told me I just had to have faith because it could not be explained in any other way.

Faith is a belief, and not based in reality.

I am an Atheist and it is not obvious to me. Theists just see the world differently than I do.

We are all amazed with the beauty we see around us. Some of us (the Atheists) simply see natural forces at work. The Theists (like my son) believe there has to be some kind of 'guiding force' to create and maintain all of this beauty. To each his own.

I don't think Theists are nutso, but I do very much disagree with some of their teachings and some of their actions. For example, I think the first sentence in Numbers 31 of the Torah and the part of the Quran which commands Muslims to kill infidels are very bad. However, most Jews, Christians, and Muslims have enough sense to ignore those teachings.

Moderator cut: This is the Islam sub-forum, not the Mormon sub-forum. Our ancestors lived their lives as they saw fit and I think they should be left alone.

When you look at horrors committed since 1900, who say there has been progress?

Forty years ago the Arab world was more secular. Since then it's gone backwards. In the West, for the most part, religion has been on the decline. Though that may be true to an extent in the US, it's still an outlier, with a pretty sizable percentage believing in religious nonsense.

IDK, why draw pictures of Jesus? Who knows why people do this disrespectful thing? People do it because they can and they believe it will make them free and happy to express themselves in a ignorant way.

So what?

In the United States of America, we have the freedom to express ourselves in an ignorant way. If you gotta problem with that, too bad.
